My dad recorded 5 albums for both Gordon and Alan on both Westwood and Folk Heritage,the band name was Top Country Sound from Derbyshire. All albums are still found on Ebay and such like

Another company, Zeitgeist, is offering a CD version of Folkal Point for sale, via Amazon.
The quality is absolutely awful.
Be warned - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
Zeitgeist claim copyright from 2015.
To date, Zeitgeist appear to have released ten albums.
Please can anybody identify who Zeitgeist might be?

Whilst clearing out my loft, discovered an album with a wonderful erm, 'tacky' sleeve called "I Dreamed Of Highways" by the Rye Whisky Road Band.
How I got it, where it came from I've no idea. Folk Club raffle win?
1970s UK Country band - am I sitting on a fortune here!? Probably not huh?

Yes - how did Lumi Entertainment exactly acquire the ' rights ' to Folk Heritage and Midas Recordings artists and material?
The Folkal Point album has been available on iTunes since 2011 via Lumi.
I discovered this only today!
But it is not just Folkal Point, other artists that have contributed to the thread are equally aggrieved.
Nobody has received any notification of circumstances or any royalty payments.
Worse still - it seems as though Lumi sold their rights to this revenue stream in January, 2014 to a much larger company: One Media IP Group PLC.
Anybody involved, such as Folkal Point, need to be able to register their interest somehow, in order to receive their rightful royalties.
How could this have happened?
Does anybody have any positive suggestions?

the two four track machines he linked together were form ICI from the stories I remember. He designed and built his desk personally long before the standardisation of mixing consoles with optical limiter compressors on every single channel, being the first of its kind built in the UK by years! By the very early 80's Alan had moved onto Apple computers and had no need for his console, which had Neve bits in it lol. As it was built in the room where it was used for many years it could not be simply removed. One day Alan took out all the boards, passed me a pair of snips and told me to cut all wires near the soldered joints, which I did of course and will forever regret, I was only 11 so I've forgiven myself lol. Safely now in smaller bits Alan proceeded to bury it in a field on a mountain top in Mid Wales precisely where I can still remember. I know that he didn't want to sell it, he was a unique man, both determined and self motivated and a sound engineer in the truest sense of the word. The desk I believe often broke down in one way or another so he would get in there and fix it what ever it was and sound engineers today are just not capable of this kind of behaviour!He the last of his kind.

You will have seen my name on many of Alans recordings.
Spent many weekends in Cheadle and later Mid Wales adding backing
to solo singers and duos.He worked for ICI as a chemist,working on
Savlon before setting up his own studio with redundant equipment from the BBC.

All I know is that my Folk Heritage album is now being sold on Amazon by a company called Lumi Entertainment - including my original material!

I don't know anything about this company or what they have to do with my album but certainly I've never had the courtesy of a single email telling me what was happening to the material - nor have I been paid anything in respect of royalties owed on the original material - which is MY copyright!

Thanks, Mick. I've been in touch with Joe Stead and he's been amazingly helpful on getting at least a framework to start filling in the details on the whole Alan Green/Folk Heritage tale. I also do have your quote on Alan from your on site in my files:

'Alan Green was no slouch, but he insisted on a completely "dry" sound for folk records - a somewhat old-fashioned way to lay down tracks, methinks.'

I remember recording a debut album called Gowerton Fair, with Sweet Folk All owner Joe Stead and Alan Green recording. Session musicians were Peter Davies on oboe, Mike James on melodeon, and Paul Downes and Phil Beer. It took only a day to record it!

^ Interesting! I recently purchased an album by Paul Downes & Phil Beer called 'Dance Without Music.' It contains a song written by the wonderful Colin Wilson. Great stuff.

The Brighton Taverners recorded two albums for Alan in the late 70s. He
one of those producers who wore his expertise lightly and gave you the credit for what he miraculously recovered from some dud sessions.

Hi, folks,

I'm currently researching Alan Green's late 60s/70s UK family of labels: Folk Heritage, Westwood, and Midas. I'm currently just finishing up "framing" the info I have, which includes tons of info on the various artists and the records themselves (with a few holes still left to fill, of course) and am about to start reaching out to folks who appeared on the labels to arrange interviews etc, but before I did I thought I'd tap the Mudcat knowledge base first.

To keep the first question basic and to the point: I know much (much!) more about many of the artists on these labels than I do about Alan Green himself. Besides learning that he died a while back, rather young, in his late 50s, most of what I know about him is discographical and related to the records themselves, I don't know a lot about his background, etc.

Anyone out there from the old North West folk scene remember Alan and care to share any memories?
