Subject: RealPlayer probs some tips and help From: j0_77 Date: 02 Oct 99 - 01:03 AM Thanks to Jon Freeman at Mudcat for encouragement and help. If you've read the previous posting on this you'll know all about my unending problems with realplayer. Last year I had none, so these comments relate only to versions later that '98. Thanks to Real Support for their help, incidentally I also updated my soundcard drivers - this redirected errors from VMM faults to GDI faults. Made trouble shooting pointers much more useful. 1 Notes Page faults as you already probably guessed are memory problems, the PC 'pages' memory, i.e. writes and reads stuff by chunks called pages.... :0) |

Subject: RE: BS: RealPlayer probs some tips and help From: j0_77 Date: 02 Oct 99 - 04:48 AM Just got this hot info - if refresh rate is set high by windows or any other utility - the rewrites/updates to memory match. More reads/writes more chance of errors. Notice RealPlayer has a little window that updates all the time. AGP/PCI video card with at least the ammount of memory allocated by windows in video resources - mine says 6 meg and my current card is 1 meg :(- no wonder I am in trouble. Reckon Video memory should be 8 meg. |
Subject: RE: BS: RealPlayer probs some tips and help From: Jon Freeman Date: 02 Oct 99 - 11:30 AM j0_77, thanks for the feedback, hopefully it will be useful to a few others. With regards to video cards, it seems that a few of them do strange things. Here is an extract from a report I get from a WinTv utility:
