Subject: Lyr Add: BEN JOHNSON'S CREEK (Mark Olson)

BEN JOHNSON'S CREEK
Written by Mark Olson
As sung by Mark Olson on "My Own Jo Ellen"

Down at Ben Johnson's Creek
There's a broken pipeline that spills into the water.

CHORUS: Nobody told us we should steer clear.
There's mud on our feet and the grass.
It tastes like turpentine.
Down at Ben Johnson's Creek,
There's a broken pipeline that spills into the water.

We go out walking one day,
And a couple of mean old boys come up to us and say:
Ben Johnson's now public domain.
We tried to pay him off but all he wanted was to stay.

REPEAT CHORUS

We like Ben Johnson's place.
There's white table grapes and his mother planted these.
Now all these willows will go.
Ben Johnson held out as long as a body can hold.

REPEAT CHORUS

Down at Ben Johnson's Creek
There's a broken pipeline that spills into the water.

Strange that "With a Fie Fie" doesn't appear in the Ballad Index since it is listed as traditional in several places; also google doesn't find the lyrics.
Anyone?

Subject: Lyr Add: WITH A FIE FIE (OLD BEN JOHNSON) (Darling
From: GUEST
Date: 01 Dec 11 - 09:22 PM

Here's Erik Darling's take on it:

WITH A FIE FIE (OLD BEN JOHNSON)
(Trad: new words/music E. Darling)

Old Ben Johnson had him a still
He made corn liquor and he always will

Chorus:
With a fie fie diddle-I die
Diddle-i diddle-i dee

Revenue agents leave him alone
One went up and he never came home

Chorus

Up on the mountain livin' with his wife
She gonna be there all his life

Chorus

Old Ben Johnson do you no harm
Steal his stuff, he'll break your arm

Chorus

Instrumental break

Middle part:
Some say he's the devil's creation
Some say he's blind
Some say he's from the Indian nation
Some say he's divine

Some say he don't hear nobody
Some say he's just shy
I say he's a hawk-eye man
Livin' up in the sky

He's got children, one, two, three
Takes them walkin' down by the sea

Chorus

You better not harm his kids or his wife
Old Ben Johnson take your life

Chorus

Old Ben Johnson had him a still
He made corn liquor and he always will

With a fie fie diddle-I die
Diddle-i diddlepi dee
With a fie fie diddle-I die
Diddle-i diddle-i dee
