Subject: Nic Jones - Knaresborough Folk Club 1981 From: GUEST,Pete Beech Date: 07 Dec 11 - 08:53 PM Hi all, I've found a number of references online - here, for instance - to a recording of a Nic Jones concert at Knaresborough Folk Club in 1981. Grooveshark even has a version of Icarus different to the one on Unearthed, which is apparently from that concert. The problem is that no one seems to know where I can get hold of a copy. I even emailed Julia at Mollie Music and she said she'd never heard of it! Does anyone know how I can get my hands on it? I'd gladly pay for a CD-R of someone's version, if that's possible. The prospect of new renditions of Farewell to the Gold, The Humpback Whale et al is simply mouthwatering. Thanks in advance, Pete. |

As producer of "Unearthed" I too had heard of the Knaresborough tapes, but couldn't track them down! Mind you, by that stage in Nics career, the performances were all pretty similar, mainly because he had played all the songs so many times! I've lost count of the number of "Allandales" I've got...(all of which arrived with a letter saying "Don't know if you've got this....!") One day, If I get demented, I might load them onto the computer and when the chorus comes around have multiple Nics singing, taken from all the versions! It would be an interesting experiment...and would probably work! For Videos of Nic singing with son Joe at the QEH earlier this year, there are a few camcoder examples on YouTube...Go search. Dead emotional. |

Subject: RE: Nic Jones - Knaresborough Folk Club 1981 From: GUEST Date: 15 Dec 11 - 09:04 AM Yep, I've been lapping up those QEH vids. Nic's pride in his boy is very moving. I live in London but didn't have my ear to the ground for that one. I think it was a Tuesday evening in May - I was across town, probably just mooching, missing what might be my last chance to hear Nic sing his songs. Can't believe he did Ten Thousand Miles – when I found out I was heartbroken. Still, good job we live in the internet age and I can catch them on the 'Tube. Phil, is there any way you could forward the mp3s to me? I'm at pele_samba_1970@hotmail.com if so, and I'd be majorly grateful. Thanks for getting back to me lads. |
