Hello QRS! They do a deadly version of it, don't they?

I believe they do it in the key of D (D, G and A chords).

By the way, do you, or anyone else know the lyrics to Oysterband's "Love Vigilantes"? It's on their CD "Trawler", but for some reason, this particular song is the only one not written on the cover.

Grateful for help.

Magpie

Hello Skarphedin. (Sorry, can't do the Icelandic "d" on my pc)

The Oysterband is an English band doing folk rock stuff. Some of it quite heavy, some very beautiful. They write some of their own stuff, but they also do covers, like the one I was asking for "Love Vigilantes" which is a New Order song. Discography: STEP OUTSIDE, 1986, WIDE BLUE YONDER, 1987, RIDE, 11989, FREEDOM AND RAIN, with June Tabor, LITTLE ROCK TO LEIPZIG, DESERTERS, 1992 and HOLY BANDITS, 1993.

They're worth checking out.

Thanks for your answers catters!!

Sorry Magpie, I don´t have the lyrics to that song you requested.. I´m not really a fan of the group Oysterband, but The Rambling Irishman is one of the best songs I´ve ever heard!! Even better than De Dannans version.

ps I can try to find the lyrics if you will.

Regards

QRS

Thank you QRS, I'd love that. I have a tape recording of their CD "Trawler", but it is so bad that I'm not able to figure all the words.

Magpie

By the way, did you try the DGA chords? Did they work?

Skarpi

You'll find it on Oysterband's cd "Trawler", on the label Cooking Vinyl, PO BOX 1845, London W10 4BT. CD number COC CD 078.

As for other cd's, depends on what kind of music you're interested in. If you're going for Irish, there's a brilliant band called LÚNASA, all young, deadly clever musicians. It's not "rocky" like the Oysterband, but oooh! they're good. The label is their own, Lúnasa. PO Box 747, Belfast BT95ES. They do have a home page http://www.lunasa.com , but I haven't checked it out myself, so I can't tell you if it is anything worth looking into.

Another favourite of mine is Arcady, mostly trad, but with some dinky arrangements. One cd that can be recommended is "Many Happy Returns" on DARA records, cd number DARA CD 080.

I'd better give in now, or I'll never be able to stop! But if you want more, just ask, and I'll tell you what I can.

Skarpi, if you are in to more trad. Irish music you must listen to A band called PLANXTY.
Another great band is of course The Bothy Band.. The best(in my opinion) is Planxty´s first album called "PLANXTY" it´s a classic!! Regards

Magpie, Here is the lyrics to the song you Requested:

LOVE VIGILANTES

Oh, I've just come from the land of the sun
From a war that must be won in the name of truth
With our soldiers so brave, your freedom we will save
With our rifles and grenades and some help from God
I want to see my family, my wife and child waiting for me
I've got to go home, I've been so alone, you see

You just can't believe the joy I did recieve
When I finally got my leave and I was going home
Oh, I flew through the sky, my convictions could not lie
For my country I would die and I will see it soon
I want to see my family, my wife and child waiting for me
I've got to go home, I've been so alone, you see

When I walked through the door, my wife she lay upon the floor
And with tears her eyes were sore, I did not know why
Then I looked into her hand and I saw the telegram
That said that I was a brave, brave men but that I was dead
I want to see my family, my wife and child waiting for me
I've got to go home, I've been so alone, you see

I hope this is the right one Magpie, please tell me.

Regards
