Subject: RE: Most anticipated CD for 2012 ? From: Jack Blandiver Date: 01 Jan 12 - 07:12 AM a collaboration with 70's crooner Scott Walker Scott is the spirit of the 60s; he carries this on in his intermittent albums & visions, even his inspirational post-punk visions on Nite Flights and The Climate of Hunter, after which hell froze over until yielding the glacial Tilt, and, eventually, The Drift, which, 6 years on, I'm still getting the measure of.... The most anticipated CD of 2012 is the one that will change your life & never leave the CD player. In 2011 it was Matt Berry's Witchazel, in 2012 I will live in the hope at least that one may still browse CDs in the high street in joyful reverie of that special something turning up... I'll be getting the long awaited official release of Beefheart's Bat Chain Puller, & it might be nice if Robert Wyatt gave us a new one; otherwise what's happening on The Maritime England Suite front?? |

Subject: RE: Most anticipated CD for 2012 ? From: GUEST,Suibhne Astray Date: 01 Jan 12 - 08:05 AM is that Matt Berry as in the guy from the IT crowd? It sure is, though (as much as we love TICC) we prefer to think of him in the context of The Might Boosh & his own (brilliantly obscure) Snuff Box, which featured his music in spades. We were wowed by his approach to Popular Folklore with his tributes to Ronnie Hazlehurst sit-com themes such as Sorry! and Are You Being Served. In a way Witchazel carries that on though not so explicity, more a matter of overall spirit & sly reverence which throws up things like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-OVtYu847s My favourite song of 2011 that. The best line: the smell of a badger's death, which pretty much nails it for me, folk-wise anyway. You don't choose these things though, it's more a matter of these things choosing you. In one's younger days this happened about five times a day; these days, alas, it takes a little longer. So much music, so little time... |
