Sorry I've been AWOL. I think of you all, even when I'm gone, though.

Not so merry Christmas for me. My morning started with a phone call from my sister to get my butt down to mom/grandma's (150 mile drive) because our mother is dying. I'm down here now, and she wasn't exaggerating. And now the waiting...

So sorry about the bad rash, gnu. Cool compress might help some.

Nigel, sorry I have not yet finished the tune for your poem.

I'm lurching around without an ounce of grace on a hurt, swollen foot, making cookies for a family member to enjoy. This is a holy and much loved time for us, but also a very hard time. We're still living in fire.

Sending thoughts of peace and grace to all here. Joyful days to all,

Maeve

From another thread just lately.

One of them may cause dizziness and blurred vision. The other may cause stomach bleeding. Sooo, no way I am taking them until after tomorrow. Besides, the doc said the blood and urine tests are okay and, when I asked what would happen if I didn't take them, said that I wouldn't get relief as fast. Given that neither will cure "the doc doesn't know it is", why bother? I shall just put it out of my mind. Total costs : 5 hours in emergency (GP's office is closed until 2015.01.05) and $5.50 at the drug store (I got yer Blue Cross drug plan on a 20% pay.). Oh... and the fact that Mum is upset that I have a wicked rash that is itchy and painful, which is the biggest cost of all.

Youse shoulda been there when buddy with the blood stained cloth wrapped around his hand came in! The security guard asked the standard question, "Are you here to see a doctor?" Buddy unwrapped his hand and said, "Probably a good idea." The triage nurse triaged him as "next". He sat close to me and was an instant hit with the kids and with the adults. The kids gathered around for a boo. He said, "Doesn't hurt at all." I thought that was cool on accounta a nail gun nail sticking out both sides of a finger has just gotta hurt eh?

When the top doc walked in and called my name, I pointed to the couple with the preemie and said, "They were here before me." He never blinked and motioned them to follow him. The wife started to tear up. Not good because that made me tear up. I am a sensitive man, just like Rap. Some of the other "waiters" who don't quite understand the meaning of triage seemed a bit pissed but I'm glad they didn't say anything on accounta I was not in a good mood and my response might have been received poorly. I have been known to turn a mood at times. >;-)

I have more to relate, IF I can make it funny. Right now I gotta scraaaaaaaaatch. No, I will not scratch. I will NOT SCRATCH. I will NOT!!!

MERRY HO HO to all!

Nigel, from across the waters, I raise my glass (with its non-alcoholic contents) to that.

To quote, in parody, a poet who might have been revered: "... are people less friends because one [may never meet] them?"

Stay strong!

From: Nigel Paterson

I posted this poem some time ago. World events impel me to re-post as the New Year approaches, in the hope that changes occur for the common good & the future of Humankind:

"The People came from near & far to meet within their Place.
With noiseless feet & heads hung low, pain etched on every face.
"What ails thee, Friends?", The Wise Ones said, "We feel thy great distress".
What can be done, what needs be done to ease your wretchedness?"

Up spake a woman, young in heart, astute, clear-sighted she.
"Make us a Grail from which to drink to ease our malady.
Make us a Grail filled with our tears that we have shed full score.
Make us a Grail so fine & pure for we mayn't weep no more".

Perplexed, The Wise Ones pondered long this deeply felt request,
Concluding that a Grail so fine lay outside their behest.
"To form a Grail to hold your tears, we've neither ken nor skill.
A simple balm we can beget & thus your plea fulfil".

And so the healing balm was made & each received their share.
Returning home, they held it close, so mindful of it's care.
The World a better place became, but that was years ago,
Young Woman, 'tis your time again, The Wise Ones need to know".

I send Seasons' Greetings to each & every one of you. Without your love & friendship; your support during the dark, dark days as Jane slipped slowly from us, Ann & I would be 'in a very different place'.
                                           A toast: "To absent Friends"

                                           With Love,
                                                          Nigel & Ann.

After a long time , on and off with portastudio, I finally have a finished collection ,and it will be a double cd, which I hope to sell locally in aid of children's hospice at home team. But not yet decided on what to do about duplicating and sleeve packaging.    I know it won't be big, but it is nice to have done it, especially as I was a complete non singer a few yr ago.       Hope those house hygiene problems are getting resolved Nigel.               Blessings all.      Pete.

You and Ann deserve comfort and support, the giving of which I understand to be this thread's very reason for existence. You have mine. At the same time, let me say that I want to think that Ann's oncologist is essentially exercising the abundance of caution of a seasoned professional in increasing the frequency of those reviews.

Thinking of you, Nigel. Have just been listening to your Meditation on 'The Comfort of Singing Voices' and thinking about this wonderful web of humanity that is continuing to be woven here.

Thank you.

And shuddering about the mice - I'm generally not much freaked out by critters, but confess that I turn into that caricature of the screaming, hysterical female on top of the table when I see a mouse in the house. (Barn or field doesn't bother me, but house? eeeeeeeeeek!

Hardly what I'd call: "Worth Reading", but it's where I'm at currently...mice & rats have decided that our cosy, 1930s, mid-terrace house is where they'd like to spend the winter. The pest control man has other ideas, but there is a smell that just won't dissipate. Our drains are playing up too...the utility company did their thing yesterday; found nothing & have to return today...still waiting.
New meds...old meds, different dosages...feeling somewhat 'out of body' as things, hopefully settle. Ann's annual cancer review has been changed to quarterly. Her oncologist was slightly concerned, but very reassuring...neither of us felt in the least reassured!
I've taken on a little session work with a couple of friends. Nice songs...relaxed atmosphere...good to be playing guitar again (and some mandolin too).
Will post again when I've removed the peg from off my nose,
       Much Love to You All,
                                        Nigel.

Thanks, Maeve, for identifying me. I guess that, though now out of the Yucatan, I remain a little distracted. And may I correct myself also, gnu, while I am at it. I believe that Groucho and Miles, but not Mark Twain, said it.

If ya touch the chooks, yer gonna get.... ahem! Sorry about that. I was taught that any fox near a farm should be terminated with extreme prejudice. Same fer yer coons n such.

I recently became a member of a Facebook group whose members post pics and videos of wild animals in NB.ca (and from other places, mostly by NBers away from home). I am fascinated by the diversity and size of such in NB even though I have seen same ovr my many years exploring the wilds of NB. We have, although rare, large cougars (Eastern Panthers), fairly large wolves, and such. Of course, commonly seen are very large White Tailed deer, some HUGE moose, and many others but the pics and videos as of today are quite surprising given the habitat destruction by our GREEDY forestry industry.

Oh, yeah... in the spirit of the season... MERRY HO HO!

We just saw a beautiful Red fox lope along our northerly property line, down the ravine, and into the woods. A beautiful beast, and welcome to all the grey squirrels he can catch...but Ne touchez pas les poules!

Taking note belatedly, gnu, of your post of 6 Dec. (In the enchanting Yucatan, and distracted, last few days.) Not in any doubt that Twain, Groucho and Miles all said it - perhaps in that same order.

Happy, ChanteyLass, over your results.

Yes, we'll still be here. Don't rush on our account!

My friend who broke her upper arm in three places saw her orthopedist again yesterday. One of her neighbors drove her which was good because the day and time were bad for me as I complained recently. Her next appointment will be in three weeks at the same time. Oddly enough, that will work for me. It will be New Year's Eve so the Y will close before my favorite yoga class and the library book club which usually meets on the last Wednesday of the month will meet on the 17th, avoiding Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. And I will insist on being with her when she makes the next appointment.

Sorry. I am housebound and a tad bored with laundry and such. The weather here is "sideways". I just saw three ducks going up the street with a canoe. They had oilskins on and were bailing furiously.

Oh dear, lots of illness and broken bones, sending healing thoughts and love coming your way from a VERY cold East Coast of England, maybe not as cold as some of you in Canada and the US, but our summer carried on into the autumn and this is the first cold weather we have had!

I had an "almost" accident last week, juggling life as usual, making a cake, coping with mum, and trying to get the house ready for Christmas I overbalanced on the stairs and nearly fell backwards, managed to grab hold of the rail but pulled my ham string so I am hobbling about with a stick. Then yesterday took my daughter to see the Consultant ( at last) she has lost two and a half stone since August as the Crohns has really flared up. She has an appointment for a colonoscopy but not until January 2nd!

On an uplifting note my granddaughters Godmother was given the Keys to the city of London last week, a great honour. She can drive sheep over London Bridge!! Just wondering if anyone has actually done just that ? What fun!

Mother is disappearing more into her own world day by day,the strain of looking after her is becoming more stressful but Billy and I have each other and are coping. He is my rock and I am so lucky !

Sailing on

with much love

Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
