Many of us only knew Ralph here but I posted to his obit thread.....No harm in having it here either I suppose..........

*************************************************************
"Ralphie" was always a fine contributor here. He came to Mudcat in 2001 and always had knowledgeable and passionate comments PLUS could many times be counted on to have some funny things to add in the BS fray.

Not long after he arrived he and I PM'ed a few times when I saw he might be getting a bit ...... I dunno' what but I'll use "overwrought" by some of our resident jackasses......er, uh, trolls. I think the following response showed everything I needed to know about him in a nutshell. Intelligence, self knowledge, and above all(for me)....humor.....wait, I'll make that humour just for him.

Pat. I'm honoured!...Have had 6 messages so far.
As a Brit, I find this whole forum, not only useful, but also fascinating.
I've even got wound up meself over a couple of topics (Celtic Music?) Only because I hate to see injustice, of any kind.
But, by and large, I feel very happy here...I'll even forgive you for being American....By the way...can we have our country back now?
Best wishes from "Der Fatherland"....
I hear you've not been well, so, GET BETTER!! Best Wishes and thanks for the welcome Ralphie

Travel well Ralphie. It was a pleasure and an "honour" to have you here with us.

Great post, Spaw. Desperate, when one 'turns back the pages' of our personal histories, only to discover that some of those we knew & maybe even loved, are with us no more. To discover further that the circumstances were so excessively painful is an added twist that makes absorbing the news that much harder. Take all the time you need, my Dear Friend. You have quite a bundle of memories on which to ponder & reflect. Ann & I send our sincere condolences & Love.
Tomorrow (Monday 27th), Ann & I will be attending Ralph Jordan's funeral. He was 'Ralphie' on MC. If you're up & about at 11:30 UK time, give thanks for a superb musician; a matchless sound engineer; an irrepressible supporter & friend of Nic Jones & a Gentle Man in every sense of the word. Ralph will be sorely missed by all those who knew & worked with him, myself included.
                               With Love to You All,
                                                               Nigel & Ann

How wonderful Nigel! One of the things I have enjoyed lately is catching up with school friends on a site about my hometown here on FB. There is also a downside. One of my best friends in high school and for a few years after. I previously knew had died. I wasn't around and didn't hear about it til years later. We had drifted apart as our lives changed. He'd married another mutual friend, had kids, and all that normal family thing.

So I run down his wife on this site I found and sent her a note. She wrote a nice note back and we agreed to stay in touch. I ran across another friend the next day and she had lost her husband last year and they were very close. We chatted back and forth and I mentioned talking to "Jenny" the day before. She tells me what a strong support she had been for her AND that "Rich" had committed suicids the day their divorce came through. He had also lost his longtime job and was depressed............I didn't let her know I didn't know that and am thankful I didn't say anything to his wife. "Phyllis" then tells me that "Betty's" husband, also a mutual friend and schoolmate, had died two years ago.

Geeziz..........A suicde and two sort of shocking and sudden deaths.....

I am taking a bit of a break from the site to absorb this....LOL.....I mean really......You gotta' laugh a bit here because I was so damn innocent and enjoying the old times so much I forgot we had all aged and that carries all the problems life has brought us. It is what it is and my eyes are open now and far more prepared to continue enjoying the reminiscing with a more realistic mindset.

Realistic mindset....... Sometimes I forget one of my two core beliefs.....There is only what is. What should be never existed..... The world is ever so capable of delivering jabs, body shots, and upper cuts, in a powerful flurry. Gotta' keep your legs and know the truth that defeats it.....There is only what is......

And then, like Nigel, we can relish the joy of the rounds where we win. Much love to the crew of "Jane's Rainbow!"

Life's unexpected surprises (of the pleasant kind), can really give one a boost. A niece who I had lost touch with over twenty five years ago, has tracked me down, courtesy of the internet. I'm having lunch with her & her Family in a couple of weeks time. The last time we were together, she was still at school. Now, she's married with a son & daughter at high school. I think it will be one emotionally charged lunch!
                                                    With Love,

Take it easy Tommy and don't overdo. After a long illness and all the time in the hospital, it is way too easy to overdo.

Lots of happy folks here on the Rainbow. Continue getting better.

just got our internet fixed this afternoon and came here first.
wendy, I was flabberghasted to read of your sinister discovery. I don't suppose he was worried about your mums care at times you might be absent? , after some of the care home stories. sounds a bit of a stretch , but possible. but as he has been worried about his inheritance ,it seems unlikely. wishing you wisdom.

we bought tommy home on Monday, and we thought he might have to go back when sats readings went low and we had to suction mucus plugs out of him, but today he is on his feet, bright and awake all day so far. yesterday he slept most of the day, perhaps understandable after being so low for so long .the trend seems to be up.
blessings all    pete.

Wendy, rocky coastline. You have the helm here with all crew on board. No foolproof course when it comes to all the complicated currents. Just know you are not sailing alone.

VT, I love how when a day, week, or even an evening bubbles up as an opportunity to celebrate, you do so. Also love your honesty when it is hard. Radical acceptance, eh?

Tommy home?

Nigel and Anne, slogging through gray waters and heavy swells, keep rowing. Keep sailing. You are not sailing alone even though your journey is your own.

Darlin' Sinsull - Wise Woman - Be strong as you need to be for yourself, and also come below whenever you like and feel comfortable doing so. Tea, coffee, a shot of scotch, or a good, ribald, sarcastic, a simple silly circle of love and laughter, or/and a serious and heartfelt touching of hearts. Whatever you need here awaits you. This is a ship where there is a little magic - magic happens when hearts are open.

This boat or flotilla has the wisdom and collective heart of many and offers what we need - connection and empathy. Not sympathy. Not being told how we ought to feel or think, not judged or admonished. Just a simple acknowledgment that life is full.... That a full life includes pain, fear, suffering, loss and confusion, nothing remarkable about that except that in each case, it is our own lives and the lives, fear, and decline and deaths of those we love, personally and up close. Sometime shocking, and sometimes not. But what all of us desire and strive for are full lives, and this ship - this flotilla, celebrates the fullness of life. All the resilient ways we find to accept and embrace what it means to live and to die. To love and rejoice and to suffer and fear. To just keep sailing on, knowing we are not alone.

Awesome!

Bless you all,

Have had a really horrid day, decided after a sleepless night to try and set my feelings of sadness and anger aside and have a cool head and think as clearly as possible.

Firstly I am pretty much sure that this lovely safe haven is, indeed ,safe and my brother will not come here. but I think he may see my face book page, where I said I thought I had found a Dictaphone that might have belonged to my grandson. Then my son commented that I had found it two years ago and sent it back in the post, I then made a joke about MI5!!This all before BB and I managed to work out how to use the darn thing and then listened to the recording. We are positive that it was placed there by my brother, after a lot of rustling noise his is the first voice you hear and it was   on Sunday evening, you hear him saying goodnight to mum and then the carer putting her to bed. It is voice activated and records for 72 hours.

Back to today, I have seen the police, who would arrest him and question him if I make an official complaint! As if I can do that, the ramifications are horrible?

The second option is for the family to confront him with: ok, we have found this, why would you do this? We are worried about you, we think you need help and we wish to facilitate this for you, if not we will have no option to go to the police and put it in their hands. My son and son in law are prepared to do this as we agree that Billy and I cannot do it.

I have had to inform the care company as they have a duty of care for their employees and if they choose to take action that is out of my control!

Tonight I had a phone call from him that was very out of character asking how I was and how Billy was, made me think he has seen my facebook page, normally he is not at all interested in our welfare, there has been a history of very irrational behaviour in the past.

I am sure he will not read this, but if he did he would see how much hurt and distress he has caused.

Rainbow crew, I love you all, thank you for being here and loving thoughts to you all, sorry to burden you with this stupid tale of woe, onward and upwards.....

With much love

Wendyxxxxxx

Oh, Wendy, that's just...reprehensible.

Pete, so happy to hear the news about Tommy.

Tam, glad you're feeling better.

Tinker, we've already talked, but I'm glad Ben's OK and that you boarded the Rainbow.

Now for a feel-good story: I belong to an online photo-a-day group, and another member is the mother of a six-year-old who happens to have autism. As a way to both connect with her daughter and to get Delilah to be more creative, Jennifer, the mom, started having Delilah decide how they were going to interpret the day's prompt and come up with the subject. Delilah has quickly stolen the hearts of everyone in the group, and we enjoy our daily glimpse into how she sees the world. Jennifer was hoping to have a camera for Delilah for Christmas, but a major vet bill happened (Delilah's dog Baxter needed surgery) and money is tight for them at the moment. I'd bought my mom a digital camera for her birthday a couple of years ago that she can't use due to tremors in her hands from her stroke, and we decided at Christmas that Delilah should have the camera. It arrived half-an-hour ago (thank you USPS tracking!) and I'm waiting excitedly to hear from them.

Now try to relax and maybe make a note or two of things you need to ask or say in the AM.

Wendy- I would also be livid, but there will be time for anger later. Right now you need to be calm. Any chance your brother knows about your posts here? if so, watch what you post.

Yes, I would contact my solicitor in your place, but I wouldn't allow anyone at the house to discuss the issue where they will be overheard by bugs, nor would I make that call from home. Careful and calm is what's called for.

The ducks egg blue curtains sound lovely. You are taking the best loving care of your mother, so rest easy tonight.

Hugs,

Oh my, how an evening can change your world!

I thought I would spring clean mothers bedroom, so, with her carer, we took down the curtains, washed the windows and paintwork, put up some new curtains that were a lovely shade of duck egg blue, all well with our world .

Then as I was standing on a chair , I thought the top of the wardrobe needed dusting, so took down great granddads tin box, inch of dust, two speakers, unplugged and not needed and very dusty, mum's hat box with Buckingham Palace hat(much prized) and very dusty, and found in far corner funny little black thing ( luddite that I am !!) Turns out that my brother, who I have had issues with over spending mothers money to pay for her care, has been bugging mother's bedroom and my home

I think he is worried that his inheritance might be going ? Spending mothers money on 24 hour care? But all I care about is looking after my mother, even so, it does not excuse bugging my home?

I am sure it is illegal as he has bugged the carers, and Billy and my daughter are livid!!

What do I do next? Solicitor? Police ? Oh dear ,if ever I need a voice of calm....... here I am! Need to know what to do in the morning?

Bewildered and very unhappy

I found another quotation that may speak to some here:

"If stories come to you, care for them. And learn to give them away where they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive."   ~ Barry Lopez, " Crow and Weasel"

And a song from a Canadian singer, Dan McKinnon "Simple Things"

And it's simple things I send to all on board the Rainbow.

Friday's yoga class was followed by a 15-minute breathing meditation. My focus was on Tommy.

VirginiaTam, I'm glad you had so much energy!

Joyful indeed maeve.    May each and every one of us, each day, be open to the opportunities for joy. Even nanoseconds of joy are potent.

Dancing a jig. Great visit with TheSilentOne's parents in Strat u Avon today. Dad was a awake in chepper mood and Mum was more lucid than we have seen her in months.

Jigging more. Walked to and from the pub (lunch) without angina pain or pain in hips and ankles. What's more, I took stairs alternately. Usually my ankles and hips make ascend and descend one step at a time.

Spent the near 3 hour trips to and from Strat u Avon, singing. Kept voice and only had one coughing bout near end of the trip home.

Once back foud lovely surprise from couple of US mudcatters waiting. See Mudcat Magic thread.

Very good to read the very good news about Tommy.

Love and hugs to all you magical mudcatters.
