I can confirm that Guardian Angels exist. In my case, specifically a Music Guardian Angel. I have received a copy of an album I really wanted. It arrived unsolicited & completely unexpectedly.
Thank you, Guardian Angel, my head is now reverberating with new songs.

Thank you very much, CL. Unfortunately the Tidido link is also not UK friendly, but I found a performance of 'Toward' on YouTube...not by Gordon Bok, but an iffy cover. The lyrics link DID work...HOORAH! & compensated for the lack-lustre cover. It is a beautiful song, perfectly judged by Janie. I posted above about "...regional rights", that should be "...territorial rights", something about which I have personal experience. Only about one third of my published guitar arrangements appear on my website, the remainder languish in a 'territorial rights black hole'. Very frustrating, but something about which I can do nothing.
                                                                   Musically,
                                                                                  Nigel.

Donuel, I'm sorry that your son has been treated in such a way.

Nigel, let me know if this link let's you hear Turning toward the Morning.

Dean, pound to a penny, copyright & particularly regional rights are the reason for the song's omission. I just knew it had to be 'right song, right time'...Janie's choices are always impeccable.

Awww, who would block access to that song; I would make a substantial bet that none of the trio were behind it. That song is so beautiful musically that it would be hard to resist even if the lyric were an ode to Donald Trump instead of the actual gentle words of encouragement. I've been hooked on it for years.

Pete, thank you very much. A "...weight off" to be sure...& I omitted to say that Ann was recently discharged from her TIA clinic too, so a double weight off.

Janie, unfortunately 'Turning Toward the Morning' is unavailable on UK YouTube. I'm betting we're missing out on something special.

Mysha, thank you for underscoring gnu's post. You signed off with: BFN, which took me straight back to my childhood when TTFN (ta- ta for now) was in common usage.

Dear Donuel, state schools in the UK are not without their faults & inconsistencies, but based on my own experience, a 180 page folder of 'concerns' would have almost certainly been included in an application for 'Statementing'...a process, once triggered, that provides extra, specialised help & support for the student in question. There are cost implications, so Statementing is a rigorous & often protracted process, but once in place, it can transform that student's life. I was profoundly angered to read that Dean was punished in such an insidious way, rather than receiving the help & understanding he needed. To use your words, dignity & respect were conspicuous by their absence.
Frustrated by my inability to help in any concrete way, I nevertheless offer my experience & training unreservedly,
                                                         Nigel.

Talked to the doctor and there should not so much as a bump in the road. I probably would have preferred a conspiracy theory to rail against but life is full of random events and authority often has an unfriendly minority.

The school has a 180 page folder in small font describing Dean's unwillingness to participate. Not in the folder is the passive aggressive punishment he received for not participating. If the same care and effort had been given dean in the form of a friend who could treat him with respect and dignity we would be in a different place now.

Still here, but recently on Jane's Rainbow, I've been taking the PM route.
Wendy, very pleased to read about BB's progress. Well done everyone at Colchester!
I echo other folk's comments about Donuel & Dean's situation...some of us should get our heads together & write a guide as to how to deal with unhelpful medical professionals (& vice principals who make derogatory comments).
We have some good news to share. Ann has finally been discharged from the breast cancer clinic...a ten year haul, but to hear the words: "We don't need to see you again", ten years seemed to evaporate in a trice.
                                                 Much love to you all,

To my knowledge a compounding Pharmacy can be entirely closed for failing an inspection but to have only one specific medicine banned while remaining open is very odd.(?) I should mention a Vice principal also made a derogatory comment regarding Dean's treatment.
My wife was oblivious to these machinations so coincidence or my fertile imagination may still be in play.

After the second treatment we are once again in limbo and a low information zone. Just today we learned the compounding pharmacy stopped filling prescriptions the very day we called to have it filled. I suspect the nurse Cratchet type attendance officer who called social services, SS then called and insisted she also be present at a hastily called school meeting both had something to do with the cessation of treatment. that is only an unsubstantiated guess. This is the same woman who openly criticized us for not seeking more aggressive therapy. Now she believes Dean's treatment is akin to chemical shock therapy. But that is the problem with suspicion. Adversaries by intention or accident do not tell you what they are thinking and I am more sensitive to behavioral dynamics than my wife who relies only upon what is actually said. So Dean has opened up quite a bit more but now is in limbo until we hear what our alternatives are from the doctor.

My opinion of busy body do gooders with power in my past probably colors my suspicions but I will keep an open mind and press on.
The best cure for worry is always more information.

Push back from the powers that be to new ideas, has always been my bailiwick. Dean will persevere I am sure.

Only a few days ago, Mudcatter Keith A from Hertford refreshed his own "chemotherapy" thread, having finally come up for air, so to speak, after his September treatments. His thread is inactive now, however this thread is certainly inclusive enough for all of us thinking of him.

And he had good news, that his better half's treatment had resulted in a cancer-free situation today. Keith's is rather worse, but his treatment continues and we can continue keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.

Nigel, I'm glad you found your voice in poetry and shared it with us.

Pete, a sensitive minister and small service sound like good things. Good on you for being able to sing on such on occasion.

Donuel, what is next for your son's treatment?

And Tami, I'm glad your year is getting better. I don't know who looks happier in that photo, you or Beau. And Sally Rogers seems to be as warm and pleasant offstage as on.

Although I mostly lurk on Mudcat these days, I do check in on all you lovely people. I send warm thoughts and share your joys and sorrows. And now I want to share my joys with you.

After the first eight months of 2016 being less than wonderful, September made up for it. A house concert where I was pulled aside during the break by one of the singers and told I have a lovely voice and should sing more When I told her I panic and lose the words, she asked if I would let her help me with that. Having my given-up-for-adoption younger sister make contact with me after I'd given up all hope of ever hearing from her. Going to The Getaway and seeing old friends and making new ones. Deciding that going to Sally Rogers' Music Theory for Vocalists workshop at The Getaway might be a good idea and feeling like I needed the remedial class, but enjoying it anyway and having Sally drag me into the center to listen when she realized I was feeling lost so I wouldn't feel excluded. Having Sally pull me aside after her mini concert and telling me the same thing that Kat told me earlier in the month. Road trip to Connecticut with my mom to pick up my new dog last Thursday. Getting to know Beau (the new dog).

My mom took this photo of Beau's and my first meeting

Without the occasional poem, I would, sometimes, be rendered speechless...totally incommunicado.'Clothing' my thoughts & feelings poetically enables me to express 'where I'm at' in a way that regular prose doesn't. I feel safe within my poem; safe enough to write about things I would NEVER place in the public domain in prose. "...a poet of truth", that goes right to the heart of the matter, Donuel. My 'truth' & your 'truth' will always differ, but there are many similarities & commonalities in us all to which a poem may speak. Pete's post above is a perfect exemplar of just that. Yes, I write for myself, but also in the hope that my words will have meaning for you too.
                                 With Love to you all,
                                                                Nigel.

Yes, like I said 'a scholar and a gentleman' Nigel. Now a poet of truth.

Well, Ketamine works like a charm for depression for about a week. We had a glimpse of an aware and awake outgoing personality but patterns of withdrawal crept back slowly. But alas a turning point
is established for the ongoing treatment next week and beyond.
His improvement is well documented by the school, social services and the doctor to serve as a pioneering case study to establish FDA approval by next spring.

I thought you had borrowed some classical poetry from somewhere to express your thoughts, then reached the end and see that Nigel was the eloquent wordsmith !                  Seems also quite apt today as we interned my dad's ashes in the grave where my brother and mum were laid. Only a small party of us. The minister I asked to officiate done a lovely sensitive job ,and I sang the song I had written for dad some time ago. A season of mingled emotions.                   Blessings all.    Pete.

When words of comfort elude me, poetry often comes to my aid.

                                              'The Autumn Equinox'

The Autumn Equinox has gone,
Greens & reds & browns & fawn
Leaf-woven carpets strew the ground,
A transformation so profound.
Longer nights & shorter days
Affect our lives in subtle ways.
"Mists of mellow fruitfulness"
As harvest time our tables bless.
Birds fly south on beating wing,
Returning home once more to sing
To other ears, their songs familiar,
Sung so true & sounding clearer?
Shall we survive the closing year
Apparently so bleak, so drear?
With 'winter weeds' in cupboards waiting,
Summer's warmth is fast abating.
Stock the larder, cook the fruit,
For hunger doth our form transmute
And once transmuted, what are we?
Enveloped by a reverie
Of darkened dreams, of cold & shadow,
Spoiléd grain not fit to winnow.
Wind-blown we are nought but chaff,
The stuff of 'when', an epitaph,
But think no thoughts that hint of ending,
Seasons' cycles ever wending,
Draw us from an impotence
Imposed by cold's indifference.
'Lead us forward, kindly light',
Lest we remain embalmed by night.
                                                       (Nigel Paterson, September 2016)

20/30 at the moment. Good enough to drive without glasses. However, the eye is still a little dilated and she's putting in drops several times a day. The ophthalmologist is quite pleased, considering how long she waited for the procedure to start.

She sees him again in a couple of weeks; the optician is threatening to pop out her left lens then.

So far she's doing okay. Some vision problems, but that's to be expected as the eye has changed from yesterday morning!

She's home. The surgeon was two hours late because he had a major problem with a patient at the hospital (Pat was done at a "surgical center"). He didn't specify, but I got the impression it was one of those things that happen no matter how much work you do to prevent stuff like it.

Anyway, I got her home around 4:00 pm MDT. She ate a cookie on the way home (she had been something like 15 hours without solid food) and she slept for two hours. The phone rang and awakened her -- it was the surgeon calling to see how she was doing.

One eye is behind an eye shield and tomorrow at 8 a.m. (!!!) we see the surgeon (who is also our ophthamologist). She will probably get the eye shield off, a quick eye exam with the letter chart, and may get the left lens knocked out of her glasses.

Her right eye will be done on October 25 -- we have to work the surgeries around her travel schedule!
