The cardiologist had looked over results from a blood sample from last week, gave her and EKG and "once over", and says everything looks excellent. As for the meds, we'll stay with the statin. There was really no question but that the cognitive glitches are basically from circuit damage from the extended "down time" last year; I just wanted to sound him out as to whether the statin might be a little more detriment she doesn't need. He made a pretty good case that, all considered, she is getting the regime that's best for her.

Off in a few minutes to meet some other folks from our local art association at the Flint (Michigan) Institute of Art for an exhibit of Toulouse Lautrec.

22? Yikes! However, I think blood glucose is measured on a different scale in some countries. In the US, 22 would probably mean comatose!

I know what day it is by recalling which yoga class and instructor I had the day before!

Nigel, your family members must know how lucky they are that they can rely on you! But it isn't always good to know that you are needed!

Gnu, enjoy your green beans.

Blood sugar of 22? Yikes! More people than not would be laying there still, or with muscles jerking, glassy-eyed.
At our house, fingers get pricked a minimum of four times a day, sometimes a couple of more times if the sugar level is being contrary.

Ah Spaw, glad you feel great, maybe all those Ups are working?

Pete, I never know what day it is till I tune into Breakfast on BBC 1 in the morning!

Frogprince, hope the Dr sorts out the " not statins" x

Talking of Numbers, after a week of dry lips and mouth, Billy checked his blood sugar this morning ( he is diabetic as well as the other problems) and found it was 22! Quick visit to the nurse at the surgery and a new prescription. So now do I need to prick his finger every morning? Men !! But we love them!

Nigel, bet you love being a "grand" just like we do but..........

sailing on

much love

I've fallen way behind, checking in & posting. Will try to do better when 'things' ease up. Best I can do at present is to say that 'things' are in a state of flux. Ann & I are ok, but there is much movement within our Family: jobs, schools, houses...too many loose ends for my liking, not helped by certain individuals shirking their responsibilities & expecting Nanny & Grandad to chase round after them & pick up the pieces.
Nevertheless, you are all in my thoughts, each & every day,
                                                With Love,
Nigel & Ann (Grandad & Nanny!)

Oh! Yeah! I remember. I was supposed to stick a note on the fridge to remind me to go for my flu shot today. Saved a piece of paper and some ink. Hey, ya gotta look at the bright side, eh?

Glad to hear things are looking UP for some. I hope they stay UP!

Today is boiled ham dinner as I snagged Georgia grown greenie beanies at the Coop yesterday for $1.99 a pound. God bless America! On accounta I loves me greenie beanies.

Up,Spaw; UP, one and all. Off in a few minutes to take my good gal to the cardiologist. Routine visit, and all recent word has been good. But I'm going to pull his chain a bit as to whether he can see fit to prescribe some alternative to the statin she's taking. The stuff has some linkage to memory and confusion issues, and since last year's episode, she has a tendency to do quite a few little odd things for little odd reasons, without further encouragement. She's still "herself", and not at all a heavy care burden, but she can't quite sort details reliably on any task that's at all complex, unless it's stuff that's established by long habit.

Thanks to all for all the UPS! Well, it is Thursday where I am and I too wonder where Pete is....LOL....And if it is not Friday and Pete thinks it is then I want some of whatever he's smoking!!!! LOL.....Just kiddin' you Pete!

And yesterday was Wednesday and the curtain began to lift through the day . Today I feel pretty fair and getting better all the time. This damn Vidaza throws me a curve at every round. Some new side effect shows up and sometimes some of the previous ones don't. My numbers for the Monday following treatment were pretty good and that seems to improve through each session. I was told by the Doc that after 12 sessions and if my numbers are holding I can get a little time off maybe. This was #8.

Sorry I haven't been posting but those weeks just drag me out. My best to all! Let's sail on!

Hugging Wendy and fat B****rd.

My mood has improved a bit. Lately, the right foot has let me put some of my old shoes and boots on. I wore boots at steampunk event on Saturday. I was happy.

Can't shake this blinkin 3 month long cough, though.

Just finished shovelling Mum's driveway next to the house. Her backdoor is east of the chimney and that side of the house faces S30W. Fall winds are N to W. Leaves fall here in fall. The fall winds blow them by the chimney and they fall from the east face of the chimey to the east side of her door. This upsets her as she can't easily brush them away with her cane before she enters. Now, most people would simply accept falling fall leaves and wind but, well, I gotta shovel leaves. So I do. I am a good son. I gotta be. She's small but she's got a cane... with an ice cleat attachment. >;-)

Enjoy your leaves and wind.

UP SPAW... but stay downwind eh?

I wish a better way to deal with your ills was already found. As for your "sharing", I wish there was a better way to lighten your load but I doubt one will ever be found so you share as much as you can or want to because I know everyone here will shoulder as much as they can for you.

How about a big Spaw hug Wendy? Think that'll help? Take one anyway! Karen said she'll send hers too and she gives good hug! Take it from me, I know!

Just finished Round 8 of chemo and there is some possibility that that in a few months, after Round 12, I may get a break if the numbers are still good. Now for just a brief moment, let me whine. Here we go. WHINE ALERT:

I feel like I've been shit at and hit. The one thing I do know about this damned drug is that it has no real pattern save for one. Last time for instance I began feeling rough on Tuesday but this time I still felt great until Thursday AM when the walls all caved in. On Friday it was the absolute pits and also sadly our anniversary. But we talked and hugged and Karen made a good meal that I could barely eat. I am so blessed to have her...............Now today the bottom has fallen out and THAT is the only thing I do know about the Vidaza. By Friday I'll be bad and Saturday worse. Sunday will be pretty blah with marginal but much needed improvement until sometime Wednesday when the curtain lifts as though it was never there. Damn but I friggin' hate this! I really hate every bit of it except my Oncology infusion nurses who are really wonderful.   And my wonderful best friend that married me 27 years ago. WHINE ENDS

Maeve, I saw that post of Charlie's the other day and also a post he'd made on another good thoughts thread running where he said he'd recently been the beneficiary and had to start giving back. Hope we see him back here soon. Tam.....Get better huh? (;<))

Last night Billy took me out for dinner to our local Italian restaurant. My brother came to see mother so we went out for a " normal" evening, very precious for us. I even admitted to BB (Billy) that I have been feeling very down recently, watching mum deteriorate in front of my eyes, it is so hard sometimes to feel (and act) cheerful when you are grieving for someone when they are there , but so distant. Dementia... I hate you!!!

We had a really lovely evening ,talking about the holiday we hope to have in January in Cape Verde, and laughing about stories of holidays in Greece when something silly and unexpected happened, after 26 years of marriage we have had lots of those!! So came home feeling so much better and full of plans.

Tonight had an email from BB's sister in new Jersey , her husband had an operation this week for melanoma , and I quote " The surgeon said it was textbook surgery but in the middle his heart stopped, so they could not proceed with the planned operation, he was in intensive care for two days once he was stable, they don't know why his heart stopped"

BB has four sisters in NJ but he is the only brother. Just feel I should get a ticket and send him home for a visit, his sisters love him so much and miss him every day!!

After his chemotherapy last year and looking after my mother with me I cannot even to begin to tell you how wonderful Billy is and I know he will say he wants us to have a holiday because he knows I could really do with a break, but I think he should go home to support his sister. I would love to go too , I too love his sisters, they are lovely, but it is impossible for me to just drop everything, my business and more importantly my mum.

so give me some support crew, if ever I needed you, now is the time!

Love to you all,( Up Spaw)

Wendy xxxxxx

It will be a service lead by a Celebrant and will consist of a couple of bible readings, a poem and, just maybe, those who can joining in with Rosemary Clooney in "You Are My Sunshine". In her own words we will "shuffle out" to "Always Look On The Bright Side Of LIfe"!
Afterwards off to a local hotel for "refreshments" and sausage rolls etc.

I have often thought I would like to travel the Eastern Seaboard of the US in search of the AMAZING seafood meal deals friends and relatives have spoken about. Of course, if I really wanted to chow down on the best there is, well... here are the directions... take the ferry to Port-aux-Basques, NF, turn right, follow the sign to Margaree BUT ya gotta call first (used ta hafta, anyway) ta find out if the restaurant is open today and at what times. Me zon, me zon, me zon! I mind back in about 95 when a decent seafood platter would run $20 here. In Margaree, $8 and buddy, she was some shockin good! Lots of er in a Captain's Platter... salmon or halibut, cod or haddock, tongues n cheeks, scallops, shrimp, fish cakes. And fresh? Keep yer peepers peeled ona way downa winding road and ya'll see the holding ponds. They pump seawater inta the ponds where they keep the catches until shipping and from which the restaurant gets fresh fish daily... when they are open. Never better an I have eaten seafood from Boston to Nain, Labrador. (Footnote... seals come from the sea but they are not seafood and they taste like ****!)

So many good & positive posts to read. As we say in that most British of ways: "It warms the cockles of my heart!"
Ann & I will, finally be in Charlotte NC later in the year...dates firmed up, flights booked. As I said before, if you are within striking distance & you'd like to meet, please PM me.

Wendy, as Gnu said: "Laughter is the best medicine"

Pat, so pleased to read that you are feeling so much better. The timing couldn't be better, what with your Anniversary & all. Many congratulations to the both of you.

ChanteyLass, your sea trip sounds magical. Would there have been room for the whole Crew aboard? That would've been really something!
                                                                      Much Love & Many Hugs,
                                                                                                            Nigel & Ann

See Me
Feel Me
Touch Me
Tea Me

Well, that's the way I sing it this time of the morn. I hope your tea is hot.

Today my best thoughts go out to Linn and Tom (Bat Goddess & Curmudgeon) and hope they find some peace in the current situation. Time is finite for all of us but although we pay lip service to that, we sometimes can't really see it til it is driven home. All my best to them.

As for me, I feel as good as I have felt in better than over a year! I'm on Day 2 of my eighth round of Vidaza and this time the side effects are once again different but somewhat the same. Best thing is the Vidaza appears to be working with better numbers as we go. A few days after the chemo week is over the worst of it clears and I start feeling better again. The worst days are Friday thru Sunday. This week we get to celebrate our anniversary Friday and I'm sure we'll just have a barrel of fun!!! Oh well......we celebrate something every day as I'm blessed with a spouse who is my best friend. Damndest thing is that she says so too........go figure.

All my best crew as we sail on......

Spaw
