Progress! I can now shower and drive, but I need to wear this bulky slingy thingy for at least another month. I will have a therapy evaluation next week. And now I have a cold!

I have been away from here for too long, Too many worries to go into but, none of them mine, meaning I am well but just getting older. ChanteyLass sending love and lots of healing thoughts from sunny England, hope your shoulder heals quickly and you have support from friends, it must be horrid to be housebound and living alone.
My daughter has to start chemo on Thusday, a "new " treatment for crohnes desease, terribly expensive but after lots of meetings our wonderful NHS has got the funding. Might take a year but so much better tban more operations. A few prayers please, cannot tell you what a beautiful soul she has, the most kind giving and spiritual girl she is and a wonderful mother to her girls.

Check on insurance coverage before, and instead of, suing. You're more likely to come away with at least the medical costs covered. This is advice my wife (my live-in attorney) gives/gave when asked about lawsuits in similar circumstances. She also said mediation is always better than litigation.

Broke my shoulder. Slipped on ice, Jan. 20. Shoulder surgery on Jan. 28. Housebound, can't drive, live alone. A waterproof substance was supposed to be applied so I could shower, but the hospital was out of it. Let's hear it for US healthcare! Sponge baths only until at least my post-op appointment on Thursday. Nerve blocks were used just before wheeling me into the OR. I wasn't sedated yet. Gasps of pain. A friend who'd had knee surgery said she was partially sedated when hers were administered and felt no pain. I'll ask about these things at the post-op appointment. Probably won't be able to go back to the Y for 3 months, and then I'll only be able to do chair yoga for a while until my upper body strength builds and I can rise from my yoga mat. At least yoga has given me the flexibility to dress myself!
Trying to decide if I should sue because the parking lot where I fell hadn't been sanded yet. The manager said she'd called for the sander but it hadn't arrived yet. I've never sued before even when I might have had cause.
Other than that, life is good.

This past month has had a difficult anniversary for Rapparee.
And he had to spend last night in hospital on top of that.

I'm just now entering that annual cycle. It peaks around Christmas and stays at the peak through February.

I'm SO tired of hearing why/how others struggle at that time each of year-- in their rush to be heard about their story, they dismiss and then exacerbate exactly what is too hard for me-- it's too much like the dead, rotting mess I can't escape, polluting my space. "Tell somebody ELSE" is how I feel, but never say.

wysiwyg I agree with -in utero- memories. Those who never had formed them and repeated them in later years as a result of crises can not even begin to imagine the concept or clarity of in utero memories. Revealing what they have to say can be exceedingly important but memories are not the boss of a damn thing.

How you incorporate near death incidents are entirely your choice.

btw did you ever have a preference for left handedness?

So... the annual anniversary I deal with at the dark of the year is the death, in utero, of my identical twin at about 4-1/2 months gestation. It was a late twinning, meaning that the egg division was completed with timing that resulted not only in a shared placenta, but-- so rare-- a shared amniotic sac. I have the complete memory of dying (co-experiencing with my twin what she experienced), and the complete memory of struggling to survive her dying.

It's very rare for one to survive the other's death within the shared sac. The dissolution and resorption of the one affects the other. So, part of the annual cycle for me usually includes being grossed out by smells and disorder around me.

I work on this hard in counseling, and every year it manifests in a new way that I don't see coming. This year, it happens that when my energy will be at its annual low, my husband is retiring from a busy parish at the busiest time of the year. For both our sakes-- he's very tired-- I've negotiated that our actual final moving process will wait till March. Our retirement cottage in Ohio is furnished "enough" that we'll depart PA with two mattresses and kitchen essentials, and any valuables we don't wish to leave in the empty house.

I head back from Ohio to PA Dec. 5. I'm trying to simplify everything I can, now, so that our retirement goes smoothly.

And I just spotted one way it's come up already this year-- worrying that hubby may die of exhaustion. I'll have to work on that!

I believe that visual anomalies like these usually precede a headache. I always thought the pain was vascular in origin when the blood vessels constrict but since the brain has no pain receptors where does the pain come from? How can blood vessels have their own nerves? Perhaps the brain does feel pain when it is oxygen restricted. The pain is associated with the eyes from the eyes to the occipital and neck region.

Obviously something is disrupting/blocking visual impulses. Drugs that open neural pathways seem to restore normal function but often by too much like LSD. Detectives of migraine phenomena often point to biochemical causes with a trigger mechanism. What if it is merely a short circuit that migrates like epilepsy but with no convulsions?

By comparing experiences the cumulative similarities will advance our own musings. Sometimes we are our own best doctors.

Don, I have a friend who goes blind (usually in just one eye) because of a migraine, with absolutely no pain. Mine were different, pre-menopausal, to the point where I didn't tell my neuro how many I was getting. Now, it's mostly weather and fatigue. Funny, but Feverfew (prophylactic flower/herb) worked great before, and doesn't work now.

WTF, a migraine symptom returned just now but without agony. whew

They begin at puberty and are suppose to abate at man/menopause.
The symptom is a thin moving wriggling bright rainbow lightning bolt that shimmers in my field of vision no matter which eye I close. It has drifted to a right side peripheral position so it does not block the sweet spot. I would encourage future research to focus on sex hormone - migraine connections. Poof, it just disappeared. The lightning bolt, not the sex. :^/

Morning crew, we have just had a wonderful 10 days with nephews and a niece visiting us from New Jersey, they managed to take in Windsor Castle, stone henge, Bath, London with all the usual"must dos" london eye, Buckingham Palace, Greenwich and we all enjoyed the Eagles game at Wembley. Two days in Edinbrugh then a day in Suffolk. We saw them off at Heathrow on Friday. What a whirlwind visit but much love and hugs to enjoy plus the great news that Billy had another 4 month check up with his specialist and he is still in remission.
Having a restful day today looking at all the photos, coffee pot on if you would like a cup

But the member casually let drop, on a music thread,
that an elderly parent died in October (last month)
and that the member not only spoke at the parent's funeral
but made music, in spite of being intensely emotional about it.
