She's being moved to a nursing home today, and will be receiving hospice care. We knew that this day would come and my brother and I have been planning for it -- we had hoped it wouldn't be soon, but that's always the case.

Needless to say, the phone calls have been numerous. The family -- cousins, friends, in-laws -- is rallying, preparing for the inevitable. We never approved of her lifestyle (laying in bed literally all day and night, eating pizza and swilling soft drinks, only going out to go to the emergency room) we knew that there would be no change. Prayers assailed Heaven, but we knew that any change had to come from inside her and it hasn't.

And so....

Thank you for the enquiries about my health. I have no test results yet, not helped by the fact that my GP is off sick! I feel ok...I drove to Heathrow yesterday to bring Ann home. I've shopped, tidied up the house prior to Ann's homecoming & even managed a few bars of music. Energy levels are low, but providing I stick to 'slow & steady wins the race', I'm not left feeling wrecked. I will post updates when they become available. It's good to know that you're all out there,
                                                          With Love,
                                                                            Nigel.

Janie, after looking back over recent pages of this thread, I notice that earlier this year, you were keenly focused on November, when a number of things might change or present options you didn't have before, like Medicare and your employment.

If it isn't too personal, would you please update us? Best wishes.

How are you recovering, Nigel?

In my little corner of the world, I had a lovely Thanksgiving with J-boy's family. They are lovely people and have treated me like I belong there from the day I met them almost 18 years ago. I also stepped on a scale and discovered I've lost twelve pounds and an inch off my waist since I got Beau. I was getting kinda pudgy there for a while.

Oh dear, so sorry I had no idea everyone was wondering where I was.All safe and well here.

First do hope you are feeling better today Nigel, keep warm indoors if you have the wet and miserable weather we have here at the coast, hot chocolate and a good movie for me I think.

So an up date, had a little scare with Billy as he had "tummy trouble" for ages and of course said nothing!Men!! Anyhow the Dr sent him fast track to Colchester Hospital and after a few unpleasant procedures they diagnosed Diverticulitus so that was good news as we were thinking the worst. So no more spicey foods.

Then our daughter had a housefire caused by a very old Tumble drier, the girls were sent out to the garden in their jimjams and bare feet, but were impressed when the firemen sat them in the fire engine while they checked out the house. Sam had put it out with an extinguisher , good thing as the fire brigade were the wrong side of the duel carriageway, Sam could hear the sirens but they were lost for a while! Did a few thousand pounds of damage to the laundry room but all the family were safe !

It is nearly a year since we lost my darling mum I miss her more every day, and sometimes photos of her pop up on facebook which cause a little heartache, but we have had some lovely family gatherings this year and she is always in all our hearts.

This time last year ,today in fact, Billy and I went to New Jersey to see his family for the holidays. How quickly this year has gone. So wishing all of you over there a very Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday. I will go to the galley and make coffee and get going on the pumpkin pies!!

lots of love and wishing all the crew health, peace and happiness
Wendy xxxxxxxxxxx

PS thank you Maeve I am in touch with Santa xx Ho Ho Ho

Felt pretty wretched Thursday evening & Friday...excessive, post-procedural pain & an adverse reaction to the sedation being the main contributors. On Saturday, I managed to leave the house & made it to the shops. Today, Sunday, I'm feeling considerably better & may continue with a new piece I'm writing. Sincere thanks to all who sent PMs & emails...hearing from you makes such a difference. Benign is the word I'm looking for when the biopsy report appears in a few days time.
                Much love to You All,

Ranger1's friend Beau is a most photogenic little dog. I'm going to re-open a DOGS Mudcat thread, in hopes that we can continue checking up on Beau over there, not to mention the dogs that other Mudcatters have brought home since that thread went to sleep.

In the meantime, the world is under a heavy atmosphere of confusion and uncertainty these days, which is challenging enough when one is well in body and mind. My heart goes out to everyone who has asked for prayers here.

Thank you all for your good wishes. I've had to have this procedure before, so I know what to expect, which doesn't exactly fill me with joy! Essentially it involves removing suspect, internal tissue that has proved to be benign so far. I have to be checked every three years. A small but uncomfortable price to pay for peace of mind.

Keberoxu, they belong to some friends here in Maine. I was honored to be asked to farm-sit for them last spring. In addition to the highland cattle, they also raise Tamworth pigs, have a large mixed flock of laying hens, a small flock of guinea fowl, a cat, and a border collie. It was mostly fun and a lot of hard work, in addition to taking care of the farm, I was also working full-time at my park job.

Dean, he may very well be part caterpillar for all I know. It's kind of brindle, and then there are the parts where the hair is growing back from when he was first rescued and had open sores that the vet shaved around. The hair has mostly grown back, but he'll have a couple of permanent small bald patches from the deeper wounds.

I'm just going to sit here in the galley for a bit with a nice hot cup of cocoa with a ton of whipped cream. It has been a rough week, and not just the political issues in the US. Yesterday, a dear friend's father passed away on her son's birthday, and another dear friend's father was in a car accident and is in the ICU. Anyone have any gingersnaps stashed away in here?

I had no idea, ChanteyLass, thank you for sorting out the maths! I agree, we have a superb crew, but there's always room for more. No experience necessary, come aboard & you'll find a hammock with your name on it.
I'm currently 'home alone'. Our North Carolinian daughter has a new job which meant a relocation to Dallas, TX. Ann is presently visiting. I'm not fit enough to fly...day surgery scheduled for next Thursday, but I'll be out of action for the whole week. 'Low residue' diet & 48 hour fast before & 2-3 days for post-op recovery. We have great neighbours so there will be more people than usual in our house next week. If I could just have the neighbours in & do without the op., that would be ideal!

This poem was a great comfort to me when my Father died. It has been read at many funerals, but the sentiments expressed are timeless:

Death Is Nothing At All

By Henry Scott-Holland

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just round the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
