Here we are, below the music threads, and after a brief but welcome pause following the policy change "BS"-wise, there are a majority of threads, once again, in which the same noise-makers resume their pack behavior, each trying to out-howl the other. But this thread, thanks be to Heaven above, remains. And thanks, to be sure, to all of you.

Rapparee, that does indeed look like a great place to recuperate--or do just about anything else!

Joe, I don't know that I'd want a martini, but I'd definitely wish your dad, "Cheers!"

So, the hospice people said my dad quite possibly might not live through last weekend. He proved them wrong.

I called him yesterday (Wednesday), and he couldn't talk very long because he was having martinis with his granddaughter (my niece), along with my brother and sister-in-law. Dad stopped cigars quite some time ago, but he still enjoys a good martini (well, actually a gin Gibson with an onion). He lets my brother mix the drinks nowadays, though.

My dad has always known how to enjoy life...and he's having a good time on the way out, too.

Cheers!

As fine a tribute to a parent as one could offer, Joe. Continuing to hold your Dad, you, and all who love both of you in my heart. That description of the Memorial Day ritual of the windows and screens while listening to the race is gonna stick with me.

Have seen some of your photos on Facebook Rap. Definitely a good place to recuperate. Y'all have had a lot of challenges in the health department over the past several years. Hope you both get a little (big)break in the 'action' regarding health concerns.

Glad to hear Tommy is better, Pete. Would be wonderful if he especially, and all of your family, could get a bit of a long respite.

We sail along, calms seas or storms, in caring company.

That's lovely joe.       I am pleased to say we bought tommy home today. Although the consultant had said so yesterday, we were not expecting him to , as the previous night he still needed a fair bit of oxygen all night. But last night he did,nt have any so home he is. On his feet with support and happily on his I pad ! There are still some medical anomalies but he is looking well. Thanks for the interest, well wishes and prayers.          Blessings.    Pete.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, Janie, "On a Day Like Today" fits my situation very well right now. What a wonderful song!
And Forever's is a gift you're forever giving away.

I thought my dad might die this last weekend, the weekend of the Indianapolis 500 race. Until I was nine, we lived in Detroit and my dad worked for a company that sponsored Indy racecars. He spent every May in Indianapolis, and he loved it. He took me to races in Detroit, and I got to see the pits in action and meet the drivers and mechanics - and they all seemed to know my dad.

After we moved to Wisconsin, on Memorial Day we would take down the storm windows and wash all the windows and put up the screens - while listening to the race on the radio. I loved working with my dad, and I loved listening to the race with him. Heck, he even got me to enjoy painting the house with him.

I think that's the greatest tribute I can give to my dad - that I have always enjoyed being in his company.

-Joe-

May your dad step lightly from this world, Joe, when the time comes to do so.

Holding him, and you, in my thoughts and meditations. Sounds like the apple did not fall far from the tree.

I think you know the folks performing, as well as the songwriter. May this bring you, and perhaps your Dad, quiet comfort. On a Day Like Today

I'm waiting for my dad to die, all the way across the country in Florida. His kidneys are shutting down. He may go this weekend, and he may keep on living for a couple of weeks. I had a nice visit with him last month, and we watched bald eagles at lunch every day for a week. He's happy and comfortable, and he's 96 years old and has lived a very good life. He taught me how to enjoy all the things of life, and he did a very good job of that himself.
Soon he'll be flying with those eagles.

I am pleased to say that tommy is off the critical list now. Today out of bed to sit in his chair and generally so much more aware and alert. White blood cells normal, though ideally ought to be higher to combat the infection. So, not complacent, but much encouraged. Thanks crew for your interest.   That's a very positive attitude , donuel, good to read of some improvement . Same too Janies mum following her recent op.      Blessings all          Pete.

For twenty years I have known that Fuchs dystrophy would rob half my vision. Five years ago I arrived at the point where my sight was not dependable due to the variability of corneal thickness and fogginess.

But now that I put salt in my eyes to dry the cornea manually as the cornea pump no longer automatically circulates fluid I can see 80% better. I had been adding fluid from eye drops instead of doing the opposite. A relatively new (10 years) type of transplant could be done in the future if needed.

The last three self portraits by my mother indicated that she too had Fuchs dystrophy. Each portrait was blurrier than the last.
I am lucky to find this treatment.

Sending good thoughts, and especially, {{{{hugs}}}}, pete. What a roller coaster it is, indeed.

Glad the eyes are better, Rap, and yeh, nasty bugs in hospital. As soon as Medicare and a medigap policy kick in, in November, my first medical visits will be to try to fix trigger finger and ulnar nerve related hand problems. At the rate you are going, you will soon be a regular bionic man! Pat faring ok at present?

Allergies seem to be hitting many of us harder this year than usual. I'm not much of one generally to take over-the-counter meds., but have learned my lesson with spring allergies - take the antihistamines and Musinex to keep it under control or risk developing secondary sinus and lung infections that can result in real and serious illness.

Mom is doing really well 5 weeks post shoulder replacement. Doing gentle exercises at home but no vigorous PT for probably another 3 weeks. Off of pain meds, has slightly better range of motion even before really starting PT, and most importantly, is not in the severe, chronic pain she had been experiencing for the 6 months prior to the surgery.

How are the chooks, Maeve? And how are you and TL faring? Your lungwort and crested irises have been very happy here this spring.

Next week -- Sunday, in fact -- we're leaving for a week in Grand Teton National Park. We'll have a cabin (wooden) at Colter Bay Village and a week full of excitement and just laying around. For example, we'll be rafting on the Snake River (it's quite mild where we'll be), a wildlife trip into the Lamar Valley one evening for wildlife viewing, and a breakfast cruise on Jenny Lake.

Pat needs the recharging, as do I. And we're planning a week or two up in the Waterton-Glacier area perhaps at the end of June into the first part of July.

Then, in November, perhaps a simple trip to see the Aurora Borealis.

"Don't you ever want to stay home?" you ask. Well, yes, but if we do the doctors'll get us.

Pete, there is nothing I can do beyond what I have been -- good thoughts winging (do thoughts "wing"?) Tommy's way.

keberoxu (and all), my eye surgery seems to have placed both eyes at 20/30, with means I could legally drive without glasses. I'll know more on the 26th, when I again see the eye doc and should get a new prescription. In the meantime, I continue to put in one each of two drops every day.

I had hand surgery (trigger finger, a tendon condition) a week ago last Friday. The stitches are supposed to come out this week. I'm doing hand exercises and going without a dressing on it (the wound is literally --- that long and has two stitches in it). The skin pulls when I flex my hand and there is some pain in the adjoining fingers. What bothers me most is that during the four (4) hours I was in the hospital -- 30 minutes for the surgery and the rest for prep and recovery -- I seem to have picked up an upper respiratory infection and I've been on antibiotics for it since last Monday.

Go the hospital and get sick -- it's how they stay in busy!

Having well & truly 'let go the tiller', I'm very heartened to see that my 'reckless act' has changed nothing. Jane's Rainbow sails ever onwards, cresting the waves...weathering the storms & altering her course when required. ChanteyLass expresses how I feel to a 'T'.

Skarpi was good enough to post, after exchanging contacts with Joe Offer, that he has moved to a different living space which is an improvement over wherever he was before. This is on a different BS thread, which it looks like Joe Offer and Skarpi revived. It also sounds as though he is still in the process of getting better.
