I'd bet that the crew here could arrange to all be here during some of those hours on the 8th for a bit of a broadband wake of the Mudcat kind sharing songs and words and the best that a friendship can bring together.

How about it fellow crew? Can we all be here between 6 AM and Noon Mudcat time on the 8th? I will be for sure. My first round of chemo ends on Tuesday and will make it something good for a marking point. Let's bring our thoughts and prayers, our songs and stories, and have a 'Catter's Wake for the Paterson family.

Good morning,

woke up to fluffy snow here in Frinton, just like a silent cosy blanket falling from the sky.

Billy saw his consultant a few days ago, good news on the leuchemia count, back to normal, red cells and platelets still very low and the bone marrow biopsy needs to be repeated, but the CT scan was good, so sailing on.

Janie, your description of the post-funeral wake evokes vivid images & deep emotions. Ours will be post-funeral too, but sadly, no singing or dancing. Even so, it is the intention that the day will be a celebration of Jane's Life.

Remembering the gathering after my sister's funeral, and it was joyous. I think officially wakes are pre-funeral but here in the USA they are often sad and solemn formal occasions at funeral homes. People flocked to the house post-funeral, however, to truly celebrate her life. Old friends from long ago gathered, plus family from near and far and neighbors and newer friends we didn't know. Old friends included many of the people the three of us sisters melded with in our twenties, the period when we truly became heart friends and not just sisters. Kaye had left and come home. Annie and I still lived far away and had not been with this crew for many years. Fiddles, banjos, guitars and basses appeared, there was singing, clogging and dancing in the hallway, cherished and joyful memories shared, pictures and photos passed around. A true reunion of not just blood family but of the communities in which she had been embedded and to which she had contributed so much across time. The ladies on the church committee who set up the food and some neighbors were somewhat agape, but still appreciative and celebratory. There are memories that still bring tears. But Kaye's post-funeral Wake was a truly joyful celebration of her life, and the memory brings me great joy and solace, even this many years after her death.

May it be so for you and yours, Nigel.

Here in the hills of New Hampshire there is still well over a foot of snow on the ground. Spring is in the air, but the forecast suggests it will be late April before we see any crocuses or daffodils. We are weary of winter, but we have hope that Spring will return.

Nigel and Ann, it is early yet in your bereavement. The winter of sadness and anger and depression will run their course. But Jane will always be in your hearts, and you will never stop loving her, and her love for you lives on in your hearts. Your gentle Spring will return, not the same Springs as you may remember, but hope and warmth and light are not gone forever.

As I contemplate why I am not already fast asleep I can't help but mull over why I have checked on this thread almost every day for a year at waking and at going Oggies... first and last thing I did most days and many times during the waking hours.

I was uplifted. I was dashed. I was upset. I was comforted. I felt anger. I felt joy. I was unnerved. I was calmed. I felt helpless. I felt empowered...

This journey, here and there, has been shared by so many good folk. So many wonderful posts. Meaningful, enlightening, caring posts made by people of the same description.

Maple Slurpup... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I get mine from La Belle Province at $12.49 a litre! Half or less than most retailers here. Of course, I also like to go to a sugar camp and partake of the festivities and buy directly from the camps. Although, right now, I wouldn't eat any off the snow with the temps as warm as they are... good way to end up with a sore throat and maybe a cold.
