Tis quiet on board, moored up and all the crew swinging in their hammocks? So I will pop in the galley make some good coffee and have a good English breakfast ready for when you all come on deck!

Then I can update you our news that Billy has had enough of retirement so is working for a Suffolk Hospice fund raising. Works from about 11 in the morning till 5 ish in the afternoon.

Do you think I was finding him too many things to do ? Whoot !

love to all

I'm here, gnu. Just too busy working long hours as we play catch-up from the long fire and construction years. I seem to be in a meditative, thoughtful, not-much-writing mode these days...exhaustion and stress aren't much help.

UP to all.

Uncle Bill got shell shocked in WW1. Minded me of Vimy Ridge.

I posted this on another thread. I lost my business over this crap. I hope it is heeded herein...

Cell phones suck, and my cousin, who was a trucker and used his cell all day on the highway, may not see Xmas. He has been battling a brain tumour for about 4 years. Chemo up the arse... one batch was from Switzerland and he got it because cousin Moira's husband is Dr. Gruber at the NY State School of Medicine. Blue Cross wouldn't pay the $26K unless 4 docs in Moncton said he needed it and they bowed to Gruber on it. Long story short... Rodass (Rodney) is going to die. From a fuckin cell phone. Ahhhh shit... tears cometh again. Sorry for the drama. Just put the cell down and walk away.

I hope you all are doing well....and if not that things are going to get better....so let me blow some of my hot wind from my expansive arse to keep those sails up! ;) Or maybe I will just blow into the canvas.

Happy belated Birthday Maeve xxx

It was Billy's Birthday yesterday, we will celebrate with family and friends on Sunday. I had this brilliant (?) idea to make a cake like a garden shed . Well over here a man's shed is his castle and Billy's shed is the envy of his male friends, it has a bar, fridge and cosy chair and CD player. I too have a shed by the swimming pool. I call it " Greece" it is painted blue and green, has silk vine leaves in the roof and plastic grapes, a real olive tree in a pot, Greek pottery and a phrase book and Greek music on the CD player, Oh well what are dreams made of?
I digress, this shed cake? Two square Victoria sponges upright and filled with raspberry jam and cream, covered with roll out icing ( I cheat ) cardboard door with Bill's Shed written on door. Roof tiles made of chocolate and the wooden plank look perfect with blue icing colouring painted on. It looks brilliant in my mind, photos on FB if it works !So off to the kitchen...

Meanwhile I am smiling ear to ear as for the first time in weeks mother has eaten a whole dinner. After weeks of not swallowing or chewing what ever I put in front of her, cannot tell how many tears I have shed. I have found a company that make pureed meals so tonight she had pureed chicken ,potato and broccoli and had a clean plate! I could put the flags out!

Sailing on

much love to all

not many folks get to have their cake & eat it, too.

Some years ago a friend made me a birthday teddy bear bread as I don't like cakes. It was made on a pizza tray with a large circle for the tummy, a smaller one for the head, half circles for the ears & small circular tail!

Fresh out of the oven, it came with a lovely block of butter.

YUM!! We started with the ears - I do love a slice of bread with a slab of butter melting into it, especially warm home-made bread. And another slice ...

hmmmmm, I just might have some butter on a bit of bread with dinner tonight

Hi,

Just a bit out of balance with thunder weather in the night, with lightning striking somewhere in this part of town (some 300m). Looking for a rainbow, to balance it.

Bye,

Sure, Pete....here are a couple poems....one I wrote for Pat. I have posted it elsewhere....but here goes again:

Pat Departs
The tune's distant strains
murmur on light air currents
through open windows
calls him, bewitches to track
the tattered strands of the air.

The fingered notes yank
his heart, pushes him to rise
from his bed, and breathe
goodbye in her ear, as his
lips savour hers one last time.

He walks from the room,
follows the beckoning song
as it calls for him
from the mist shadowed fog line
across the apple orchard.

He follows the song,
tentacles of mist grab him,
cool vapour fingers lock
over his wrists, his ankles
tow him deeper in the wood..

He strolls down the rows
between apple trees, stretched limbs
reach for heaven's floor,
he turns back, one final look,
then steps into the shadows.

nt

And another one:

A landay

The moon gave the sun a lover's kiss,
as her tantric tremours welcomed the rise of the dawn.

nt

Hi,

Thanks Jane. I guess you're right: It would have been a moonbow otherwise. Anyway, it was what I needed to settle again. "Unsettling" was the word I was looking for, yesterday, but being unsettled, I couldn't find it. It wasn't exactly lightning striking from a clear sky, but it was unexpected and intense.

Calmer waters today, I guess. Thanks: Consider me below making tea.

Hi Maeve,

I've been on board for a while, but I usually sit out of the way on a coil of rope somewhere, so as not to be in the way of the ones who actually know how to support and comfort. But thanks for your welcome.

Biscuit/cookie with your tea, or chocolate?

Mysha- Oooh, hot tea! Have any Assam? I'd love a McVities' dark chocolate digestive biscuit if you have any in the galley, thanks! (You are never in the way. You give comfort with clear speech and logical thinking.. and a subtle, wicked (that's good in Maine) sense of humor/humour.)

Thinking of our loyal crew, and imagining Nigel off on a lovely Greek island with family. Nathan, I still love "Pat Departs".

True Love has had a very painful couple of years, so we haven't been able to do our usual two years ahead firewood hauling, cutting, splitting, and stowing.Summer's ending, and the winter firewood is far from ready. Getting kind of worried... which accomplishes nothing useful. I miss having plumbing and I miss making music.

Off-topic distraction opportunity:
A family member has offered to get me a proper chicken coop for our 8 bantams plus future broody hens and chicks (big, expensive birthday present). Anyone have great design suggestions? I know I'd like an attached hardware cloth pen, daylight and ventilation, a hinged roof and sturdy wheels for mobility, a cedar cold frame, cedar compost bins for soiled bedding, and food storage. First need is safety for the chooks, second is looking good since it'll be near our cedar yurt home. (Looks something like this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/oregonyurtworks/2324586915/in/pool-oregonyurtworks/ and this, minus the addition: https://www.flickr.com/photos/oregonyurtworks/2324154983/in/pool-oregonyurtworks/ ) Help me dream!

Hi,

Thanks. Well, Assam and McVities it is. Let me rummage around a bit.
Ah, I found something. Come and get it!

Maeve: Do you think you can do a logs and music event with kinsfolk, friends, and neighbours? During the day make short work of the firewood together, then eat together and make music/sing?

Wow; I hadn't actually seen how big the Yurt was. That inside shot is impressive!
Well, it may be a bit old, but I guess someone has to mention the first option for mailboxes, dog houses, dovecots and chicken coops: Miniature of the Yurt? It may not combine well with both having wheels and all those attachments, but it should give you a bottom line to compare other designs with.

Morning all, and welcome on board Mysha, we saw you on the coil of rope and were waiting for you to join in x

Wow Maeve that Yurt looks fantastic. Something that I have savoured here on the Rainbow and also reading the declutter posts ( I enjoy them so much but never write because my life is cluttered all the time)is to see how different our lives are. You all live in such beautiful places and grow your vegetables and do such clever arty things, I am very envious but so pleased to be able to share your experiences. One day when our life is less complicated I hope Billy and I will visit with Billy's sisters in N.J. We haven't been "home" for ten years! When we do I intend to visit Maine and pastures new and hope to meet up with as many catters as I can ,if music is involved maybe I could even see if I can still sing?

Daughter and son in law off to London for three days so I have my two little granddaughters to have fun with.

with love to all, hope Nigel and Ann are having a lovely holiday
