Power came back 3 days earlier than anticipated. Tree tops and lots of branches down in the yard but no trees on the house and no actual whole trees down in my yard. Nature did what nature does. Pruned, and past time for it.   The wind is delightfully scented of pine from the downed boughs and treetops in my yard. I'm sitting pretty and ready to row or sing.

UP!

Pete... more room... more room is good room.

Thanks for the thumbs up, guys. I did post some things a bit OTT but there it is. It was what it was. Glad it was taken as meant in the spirit intended. I am slowly getting back to slightly (?) abnormal gnu.

different elephants...different genres ....great music.
agree with nigels remarks re gnu and his mum.
we been down winchelsea over the weekend. we changed to a bigger caravan, mainly because tommy has more equipment so needs more room.
it felt sad having finished clearing out the old van and leaving it for the last time. my mum had been very particular with it and we had left her ornaments there as fond memories. and it felt a bit like letting go of something of hers that we had still retained. of course we do have more room in the new van for the ornaments too!
blessings all    pete.

Gnu, I missed your birthday. Many, many happy returns. I hope you had the best of days & celebrated in style. The piece you wrote about your Mother was touching, funny & painted a clear picture of the love you two share...a real joy to read. You also said earlier: "Hopefully, some variance, some dalliance, brings some abatement from the... you know...". I agree absolutely. I love it when our thread becomes conversational. I love it when folks post Music links. I love it when Spaw & gnu 'go at it'! I love the humour & pathos. I love the intimate, deeply personal posts that take one's breath away. I love Jane's Rainbow because of the love & support Ann & I have received. I love Jane's Rainbow because of the love & support given to others. Jane's Rainbow would not exist without all you Good Folks who check in & post...you are the wind in our sails, our navigator, you keep watch in fair weather & foul. A Crew to end all Crews.
             With Love to You All,
                                             Nigel & Ann

Sandra, I hope your computer woes are soon sorted. I have a love/hate relationship with technology. I love it when it works and hate it when it doesn't.

Gnu, others have refreshed this thread, too, but of course your efforts are greatly appreciated. I tend to let a vital thread (yes, I consider this a vital thread) skip one day before I refresh it and try to do so with a comment, though I often can't think of one and have to resort to "Refresh." If a deadline is approaching, I might refresh it daily. That's assuming I get to Mudcat daily, which I try to do if too many other things aren't cluttering my waking hours. When I don't get to Mudcat, I feel like I've missed out on something. (OCD-me? Maybe slightly!)

Thanks for the video about Zappa's collection and the Elephant Walk. That music was cool, but I prefer this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkSfPxk_xKY

Oh, and gnu, happy birthday!

Not to detract from the overall thrust of this thread in any way. Hopefully, some variance, some dalliance, brings some abatement from the... you know... no? No matter. I shall kept this thread... hmmmm. No, I won't. Change of heart. See yas when I sees yas.

So the Mac doctor will be calling on Monday - cheapest option will be wireless - expensive option will be a new iMac - but maybe he can fix whatever is wrong & I'll only be paying for a house call

It's good to catch up on the Cat - especially this thread - clever Gnu -

Hahahaa! Just thought of this. My buddy's lad was about 14 and I asked, when he said sommat stunnedasmearse, "Who you jivin with that cosmic debris?" He was a puppy in full headtwist. I asked him if he know who Frank Zappa was, knowing the answer. I played some for him. He freaked out. I let him access my LPs after I showed him how they should be handled. Anytime my buddy visited me after that, the lad would immediately ask if he could play some records. Warmed my heart. Not too often a kid gets access to THAT many works of art. Imagine a kid (some 15 years ago) listening to Mario Lanza... Torme... Pavarotti... Makem... Roger Miller... The Cars... Zappa... Deep Purple... Alice Cooper... Jethro Tull... Patty Wynette... about 3000 to choose from. Now, kids get fed Beeber or whatever the hell his name is. Sigh.

"Apostrophe in my opinion is the finest album Zappa ever made and deserves a special place in some music hall of fame..."

Accolades abound. There is even one song that I don't like half of! Takes a rebel to push even MY boundaries. I agree that it deserves a high pedestal among all works of music, as objective and assuming as that may be. Add to that the fact that Frank was SO amazingly intellectual and debated politics, governance, law, religion... you name it... with some of the great names and, IMHO, trash media interviewers, it saddens me that a man who only ever did one drug (tobacco) died from that one drug FAR too young. RIP, Frank. YOU had a Crystal Ball.

On a lighter note. I am delighted with my plan. Mum is 87 and not so well. She is saddened by the fact that she can't get me something for the big day. She is having a more than usual bad day today, so... I went shopping for birthday presents for Mum. I got 2 pairs of PJ pants, 6 pairs of HD socks and Kaspersky 2014 Pure 3.0. I put the items in one a them there gift bags what I got at the Dollar Store and covered it with the fancy white paper. I will take the bag to Mum's tomorrow AM and act real surprised like when I open up the bag and say things like "OMG! JUST WHAT I WANTED! HOW DID YOU KNOW?! AND SOCKS! AND KASPERSKY!!! I love you, Mum. Thanks." I hope she gets a laugh out of it.

Yesterday, as I usually do on her and my Bday and at Kissmeass, I gave her two dozen roses, white and red, a big hug and a 'thanks for looking after me' for, well, this year it will be 57 years and nine months. Hmmm... part of that should be 'putting up with me' I suppose.

Maybe not the right place to post this prattle but I think it's heartwarming and worth sharing with this scurvy lot of tars. Warms MY heart. If it don't warm yers... prepare to be boarded!

Yes, I am celebrating early. Why do you ask? Anyone coming over for BBQ style back ribs? I got a BIG pot boilin and the sauce is near done and there's lots of cold ales... well... a fair few left. >;-)

Thanks for the clips gnu......Apostrophe in my opinion is the finest album Zappa ever made and deserves a special place in some music hall of fame. It uses roots of jazz, blues, rock, and even trad, to create a collection of work unequalled anywhere else. Then add in the musicality of the band and the arrangements. It is beyond all doubt the tightest of any rock style album ever and Frank goes on to use odd instrumentation and electronics to outstanding effect.

You can enjoy the whole thing just for the listening or then break it down and take it apart and lose your mind in amazement at the talents of Frank Zappa and the sheer "on it" tightness of the band. Then throw in some very memorable lyrics and phrases............many have entered mine and others lexicon.

If I see some ripoff of a more expensive object I ask, "Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

I get soap in my eyes in the shower and I sing loudly, "I can't see....(BWA_DA WABA BWOP DAH BADOP BWADOP)....I can't see ....(BWA_DA WABA BWOP DAH BADOP BWADOP)....

And probably 30 others all from this album. I love Frank and there are other good albums like Weasels Ripped My Flesh but none touches Apostrophe.

Okay.....enough of that! Many UPS to all and how about some warmer and happy days extending to this crew as Spring comes to Jane's Rainbow! Love to you all!!!

Spaw

Maeve, many 'Ups' back to you.

Wendy, so good to read your positive news. In your earlier post, you sounded so lonely & vulnerable.

Pete, very pleased you enjoyed the Music. I hope you're ok too.

Frogprince, enjoyed your play on words. Can I hear Andy Williams in the 'dim & distant', singing: "Up, up & Away"?

Chantey & Sandra, greetings & hugs from good old London Town.

I'm sending you all a package full of the glorious, spring sunshine that's streaming through my window this morning. If you need more, just ask!

Thank you, thank you, every one for your loving thoughts.

This morning ,after a good nights (unexpected,) sleep we are far more cheerful than I could have imagined yesterday. To be honest Billy could have retired last August, but he loved, and was really good at, his job. Brilliant at meeting people and very honest he enjoyed meeting and helping small businesses owners. He kept working all through the months of chemotherapy, in fact I think it helped him deal with it because he had to get up and get going each morning.

Now he has a few weeks to sit back and take stock. I cannot imagine him doing nothing but maybe a part time occupation that he can enjoy will beckon and some free "golden" time to share with me sounds rather lovely! I am lucky having my own business as I can work when I want to so going to the beach hut together on sunny afternoons sounds good to me!!

Mother is content and happy and unaware that we are all so worried about her.But we are very lucky with the support from her carers and the local Dr.so are able to look after her at home with us.

And of course I have the wonderful Rainbow crew, sending love to you all and sailing on,

Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sitting alongside Janie, pulling for all I'm worth. When we're done with that, it'll be time to rig the sails & set a course that'll take us directly to Wendy. She lives quite close to the ocean, so I'm looking for volunteers for a shore party. Be ready to carry Love, Hugs, Tea, some tasty morsels from the galley, Laughter & Smiles, Peace of Mind, indeed, anything that you can think of that will ease her burdens. Fate's waves have dealt her a massive blow.
If only this fantasy/metaphor could be transformed into reality...if only...if only.
Wendy, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say: "We're here, we're with you, we love you & we send that love in abundance. We can find you if you get lost, don't worry. Please remember, you are NOT alone.

Sometimes, when I come to Jane's Rainbow, I feel very in awe of the wonderful words of wisdom that the crew write. So many stories of brave and strong people, that I feel so much love and respect for. So I sit back in the corner and wish that I had the strength and courage that they modestly show to us all.I have had so much support from you all and I know that the problems I have had to face have not been my own but my lovely husband Billy's and my darling mothers's dementia.

But today , I am at a loss, Mother is so very ill, a horrid chest infection, she cannot speak, words are a struggle, and she cannot swallow anything but liquid.
Billy has a dreadful cough and ear infection so is on very strong antibiotics and steroids and then found out today that the company he works for is closing the sales force so he has lost his job.

Feeling very lost , giving Billy all the positive thoughts I can but needing a hug!!

Wendy xxxxx

Pete & Tommy, I hope your days are running more smoothly now, with less anxiety for Tommy's health. Your persistence, too, in the face of adversity, really does you credit.

Rapparee, very good to hear from you, despite your initial news being not so good. As a taker of large doses of Vit D myself, I have felt the benefits. I trust you will experience a similar, positive outcome.

Sending greetings to everyone who visits, but chooses not to post. If something/someone has touched or helped you, so much the better. Please come back, anytime.
                              With Love to You All,
                                                             Nigel

Rapparee, I'm glad you got a diagnosis and it only took a blood test to do it! I hope you notice improvement soon.

Gnu, good luck with future posts. Yours must be disappearing into some void.

I've been "down" for some time, sometimes badly so. I went to see a doctor about it, and she had a blood test done for vitamin D levels. She called today and my vitamin D level was 18.6 out of a minimum of 30. I'm taking 1,000 IU of vitamin D3 twice a day and it might be helping already. The doc told me that most people in the US and Canada don't get enough vitamin D from either sunlight or food. Others might ask their doc for such a blood test.

VirginiaTam, I am sorry that in spite of blood tests that indicate "improvement" you are feeling more pain and fatigue. I am glad the medical treatments will continue and hope that soon you will feel some benefit.

tommy done 2 partial days at school now and seems to be doing well. thanks for your kind thoughts.
we are much the same as Janie regarding lost loved ones anniversaries, though will probably go to the grave around those times. my prayer for you, nigel and anne, is that memories of happy times with jane will ease some of the sting of loss.
sorry to hear of a less than satisfactory appt with the doctor, tam.
hope you get some improvement. will the warming weather help at all?.
blessings      pete.
