Glad you are still around Wolfhound/Paws......It is so damn tough as we age and find friends, many of them too young, are so ill. We all know death is coming but that doesn't make anything any easier. It is simply rhetoric. Tell your friends there are many others who care deeply for the situation they are in and while there is so very little we can do, we all know the power of supporting thoughts and prayers or just the plain Mojo that happens.

We're not a prayer group or anything even remotely like that but we do care and all of us have had the experience of knowing others care too, even those we have never met.

Keep us posted, huh?

RANGER......old friend.......Sometimes life just sucks so bad you think Hoover should be your name. Wish I had some advice. For a long time I tried to keep some remembrance of my parents until one day I saw that the best remembrances were inside of me. And guess what? From that day on those memories multiplied at an unbelievable rate. I mean really! Even now with both of them gone 40 years I have things almost daily that trigger some tale of something related to one or the other.......today was one about a Baby Grand and my Dad.

It gets better. Much Love,

Spaw

ranger1, i still mourn the loss of the old Victorian farmhouse my parents had to sell when they divorced. it not only was a major part of our family, but it also had a commmunity personna. So, imo, you have nothing to worry about, no problems. Have a good cry and a lots of hugs frofrom all of us!

I feel so silly about this, so many others are dealing with much bigger issues, but I really need some warm fuzzies right about now.

My father died very suddenly five years ago at the age of 62, without a will. The understanding was that I was supposed to be his heir, but he never told my brother this. I get on really well with my brother, and didn't feel like this was an issue at the time, so I never said anything. Why create rifts when we both felt such sorrow at his passing? New Hampshire law is clear: no will, all heirs inherit equally. My brother was executor, as he lives closer. All I really wanted was the property. I offered to buy my brother out a while ago, but he dithered. Now he's willing, and I no longer have the money that I'd been hoarding for this. We agreed that we have to sell it. It's stupid, but it's like I've lost my dad all over again.

I've been reading regularly and thinking of you all, though I didn't feel the need to add to what others have said so well.

Earlier in the year I butted in with an appeal for my friend Richard who has now made a complete recovery from bowel cancer (checkups, obviously, but its as good an outcome as could be hoped for). Thank you all for your comments on this.

Now I know of two others who would appreciate your thoughts.

One is a local singer, Terry, who's just been diagnosed with mesothelioma, not good: and his partner, an English player of the mountain dulcimer would probably appreciate the collective support.

The other is a Morris dancer whose long-term partner, Kate, has terminal cancer and only a few weeks to live. Although the caring situation is under control with Macmillan nurses and so forth, its obviously a huge strain for both of them. This latter has only one outcome, unfortunately, so any dancing thoughts you may have available would be welcome.

Some of you may know who I'm talking of, though I believe none of them are actually 'catters. But I don't think that matters.

Thank you.

Paws

How many times have I been told, and passed on, "Take care of yourself first, or you will not be able to take care of any one else?" A lot and every one is true. Wendy, love yourself FIRST, then that LOVE will be a natural which flows out to others. I know several of us have already benefited from it. Look at me, typing IS getting better like gnu says!**bg**

Thank you to the biggest group (in my world) of beautiful, bountiful, love & light-filled people I count as my friends. You are all priceless and I cherish you.

Good idea Janie and it fits in with my schedule for Friday! I've had the urge for some Cioppino and I make great Cioppino. I've got shrimp, scallops, oysters, clams, crab, and lobster ready to go. No mussels but a couple of cod loins. I'll cheat using clam juice into a basic red sauce (garlic, red onion,Romas,Basil,Oregano,Bay) with a full can of anchovies plus extra fennel, wine and some sugar.

Cook it all up for awhile and serve it up with Lemon slices and Garlic bread for soppin'........Ya' know originally Cioppino was made to use junkfish and leftovers/not sold shellfish from the market. Nowadays their ain't no way to do it cheap.....but you can still make it GREAT!

Get your bowls ready...........Who's making some good Garlic Bread. We need a salad too. And dessert! And a good red wine. Sign up!

Spaw

PS.....This is one of those times I really wish we WERE all together in the flesh.

Eyes and fingers crossed for good blood counts, Spawser, and especially glad to learn of faster recovery times. Guess we ought not poke you in the belly just now as if you were the Pillsbury Dough Boy, eh? In that case, get to the galley to conjure up one of your wonderful seafaring dishes to serve up to a hungry crew!

Just had to say how much better I feel today and each day after the chemo. It is taking less than half the time to recover, maybe even less. Now I wait til Monday to see what the blood says! The worst part at this point is the belly after a week of 15 shots. Feels like I pulled stomach muscles plus very warm to the touch. Better today though than yesterday.

My Dear Wendy,
Please don't apologise for ranting. You have a deep-seated need to rant as much as you need. I'm with Spaw, I don't know how you cope with the dementia that at one & the same time, 'takes your Mother from you' & yet physically, she remains with you. I can only guess at your frustration & your inner turmoil. I am moved to read that you choose to share your distress here. For sure, you have chosen wisely.'The Rainbow' is well provisioned for the heart & soul as well as the mind & body.
Kat & Spaw, rest easy in your bunks, there are enough of us to trim the sails, check the course & keep an eye on the glass. Rest easy & recover. Healing takes time, take all the time you need.
Janie, you're right, we're on the move again.....
                                                                               With Love,
                                                                                              Nigel & Ann.

Had a bit of a wobble today, probably just feeling sorry for myself, but I had made a cup of tea for mother and a slice of cake for us both. So when mum came into the kitchen I said" here you are mum take your cake into the sitting room and I will bring the tea." She went into the hall and simply didnt know where the sitting room was, pure panic on her face! I got her sitting down and gave her the tea and cake, then went upstairs and had a good cry, horrid, horrid dementia!
Feel very selfish but I really miss her and yet she is here! I know she is very happy and has no idea how I feel and that is the most important thing but, sometimes I find it really so very painful .

Sorry for the rant but I cant share this with anyone else, thanks crew

Keep it UP, Spaw and Kat!

Abby Sale and his lovely daughter drove an hour to come kidnap me this afternoon to go hear a band of which Abby is fond that was playing at a street festival only blocks from my house that I otherwise would have ignored attending. After the band's set ended we all retired to a Tappas bar where the service was lousy but food, drink (once they arrived) and company were grand, and Abby even led us in the singing of a chantey - something quite rare to occur in public in Mebane, North Carolina.

Today was a good day.

Well a grand new name that hits me as just abiut right for a crew that's ragged but right, so to speak.

Just finished another round of Vidaza and did much better this time around probably because I went in with my blood in better shape to handle the drop. I'm doing fairly well but I'm anxious to go in Monday for blood work and most probably an Aronesp shot. If this is in fact working as we hope it is, the next week should tell us a lot. I'm hopeful as I feel a bit lousy but overall a lot stronger than before. Maybe I'll get multiple weeks of feeling better..........

The flu sucks Double L......pulpy OJ, broccoli, arrugula, oysters....all flu killers........folic acid too.

A lovely new name, fitting for this motley crew! I now be better than I "been", still recovering from a week of flu, the most sick I've been for a long time. Every day feeling a bit better, but quite draggy. Heading to the shop tomorrow to try to find some immune-system-boosting vitamins, and to buy more fresh fruits and veggies, which I crave! So I haven't been computing quite as much, but you've all been on my mind.

As to the title, nothin' wrong with making what I was thinkin' a bit more concise.

My wife and I "be" very well these days, thanks; the recent doctor visits have all taken just long enough for the docs to say "everything looks good, see you in __ months", with one doc saying "discontinue those pills" and another saying "cut back to one of those every other day".

Dean, it's you we have to thank for our new name, slightly shorter than your original suggestion because available space is an issue. I hope everyone is happy with our new appellation. Thanks to Joe who was swift to respond &, as ever, cheerfully helpful.
So, my Dear Friends, the faithful, loyal crew of The Rainbow, it's time to cast off & set sail. Through the magic of metaphor, our new course will set itself, guided, as it is by need & Life's vicissitudes.
Janie, 'How be Ye' is a phrase I find myself using more & more. It has become part of my daily conversations with Ann, often the first thing I say in the morning. Ann & I be well in body & mind, nurturing our memories of Jane with Love & Care & a surprising amount of humour! So Janie, how be thee?
And in conclusion, I echo Janie's words: "How be all of ye?
                                                                   With Love to You All,
                                                                                                 Nigel & Ann.

Still here, whether I post or not, and so appreciate the presence of so many, whether they post or not. When I have to choose between time to think about what to post and time to intentionally reflect with loving kindness, the latter is the priority. But still with the crew constantly and checking in everyday to read and reflect.

How be all of ye?

My Dear Spaw, that is the best news I've heard in a long time...really lifted my spirits. Clearly you, your docs & the drugs have all been striving in their own particular way. You are on the way UP!

There is a growing consensus that the new title of our thread should include Jane's name. That would be my wish too. Dean's suggestion: "Jane's Rainbow: a thread for all those in need of support and comfort" has considerable appeal. I'll write to Joe for guidance, but in the meantime, Joe, if you're reading this, any words of wisdom?

An acrostic for Spaw:       U nique
                                       P edagogic
                                       S cintillating
                                       P ulsating
                                       A mazing
                                       W underkind

                                                          With Love,
                                                                         Nigel & Ann.

Nigel, please keep Jane's name in the title. She is the reason this thread was created.

SPAW, you are welcome to all my UPS. Were they delivered in the usual big brown truck driven by someone in the brown uniform?

UP, SPAW, again!

"Call me anything you like, just don't call me late for supper," as the old saw goes.

Change the name or leave it, I don't have an opinion. If it gets changed, however, just make sure I can still identify it to bookmark it.

Love you, Spaw.
