From the website it seems the Spring Thing has been cancelled for this year. First I have learned of it, so at this point I know not why. If I learn more (I am in the town) I will post again.

The change of the public holiday for Betty's jubilee made things problematical for t'management so Chris & Glen are having a sabbatical but will be back in 2013 with the same recent formula and dates - ie last weekend in May.

I e-mailed Glen last October when I was updating Coblers Monday Website and got the following reply.

"Hi Mick

Due to the Queens Jubilee Bank Holiday arrangements some of the festivals we work at have changed their dates.... this has meant we do not have a date for next year...

Rather that keep changing the dated we have cancelled next years event and will see what happens in 2013..

There is, of course, Goathland's Dance Weekend on the Mayday BH Weekend, when all five of the UK's traditional Sword Sides will be dancing together for the first time ever!

I think you have the main idea what's happening (or not) As most of you know we cater at folk festivals, and this year both Shepley Spring Festival and Gate to Southwell changed their dates covering our prefered dates.... (We also work at both of these festivals)

Rather that have a date for this year and then change it again for next year... we decided to go the way of Glastonbury and take the year off from organising.

We WILL be holding the event in 2013 and hope to return to the original weekend at the begining of May... the same weekend the Moor & Coast Festival took place on... For your diary 3rd 4th & 5th May 2013 with the Bank Holiday being Monday 6th...

It also stops the clash with Ryedale Festival held at the end of May...

Raggytash; I'd certainly vote for a music gathering in Whitby as an alternative to Jubilee activities. I am already fed up of the whole royal year thang...(And don't get me started on the Olympics!)

Personally I will be celebrating our lovely Queens Jubillee in a right and proper manner, not with a bunch of scruffy leftys, drinking to excess, singing anti patriotic songs and sneering at our wonderful Royal familly.

I had a look because it mentioned Whitby.

The more I see of tripe like this the better I feel about not joining.

It would appear that Mudcat has been taken over (mostly) by a plethora of losers.

Certainly recent stuff has only led me to think the best thing to do would be to let the forum die.
