Subject: RE: Tune Add: Banks of the Bann (Willie Archer) From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 10 Apr 08 - 07:38 AM "slane" is used for one of the songs called The Banks of the Bann, "My name is Delaney, a name that won't shame me, and had I the fortune ..." but what about the air for Willie Archer "My name is Willie Archer as you may understand, and my home and habitation lie close to the Bann." (lyrics for both songs are in the DT) |

Subject: RE: Tune Add: Banks of the Bann (Willie Archer) From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 11 Apr 08 - 09:21 AM as I can't access youtube (from public computer), I have to ask are you referring to the Slane tune (the other Banks of the Bann song) or to the Willy Archer tune, Mr Happy? |
Subject: RE: Tune Add: Banks of the Bann (Willie Archer) From: MartinRyan Date: 11 Apr 08 - 09:30 AM Philippa It's Martin Simpson playing the "Slane" tune. Regards |
Subject: RE: Tune Add: Banks of the Bann (Willie Archer) From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 11 Apr 08 - 09:43 AM The tune Mr. Happy has linked to is a gorgeous rendition, played by Martin Simpson on solo guitar, of the My-name-is-Delaney one. If it's any help, the Willie Archer version has been recorded by Joe and Antoinette McKenna (she sings it). I see it's now on a "Best Of..." compilation but I have it on one of their original LP's, though it's buried in a box somewhere and I'm not sure which one it was. Farewell To Fine Weather perhaps? They're certainly two quite different airs. Wish I could be of more help - I can read dots but still haven't learned that ABC programme, and in any case can't really remember Antoinette's version except that I liked it. |
