Subject: RE: O'Hooley & Tidow on homophobia From: Big Al Whittle Date: 10 Feb 12 - 08:36 AM Interesting thread. If the abuse and violence is as widespread as that - it probably says someting quite damning about our society. O'Hooley and Tiddow are very upfront about the sexuality of ther relationship - in a way that is quite unusual for folkies of their age. I think we are all used to young kids expressing their love for each other. But somehow we all shift uneasily when middle aged folk wax lyrical. lets face it - as a society, we are full of crap attitudes to sex. |

Subject: RE: O'Hooley & Tidow on homophobia From: glueman Date: 10 Feb 12 - 07:13 AM The problem is you can never be sure it isn't just inappropriately intrusive, but benign and very pissed behaviour, until it becomes aggressive. You have to ask what people are missing in their lives that they need to assault a woman (or anyone for that matter) in a pub at Christmas. Anyway, the song sounds great and I shall be buying tickets for a couple of those gigs. |
Subject: RE: O'Hooley & Tidow on homophobia From: matt milton Date: 10 Feb 12 - 06:51 AM the story it links to is depressing; I've seen that kind of behaviour in totally pissed-up idiots before. |
Subject: RE: O'Hooley & Tidow on homophobia From: matt milton Date: 10 Feb 12 - 06:43 AM well, actually, not an interview as such - it's too slight for that - just a conversation down the phone... |

You're missing out on a really charming, intimate, revealing interview that's making me want to go and listen to the pair's songs (which I previously had zero interest in). |
Subject: RE: O'Hooley & Tidow on homophobia From: GUEST,folkandroots Date: 10 Feb 12 - 06:30 AM Belinda and Heidi are about to tour to promote their new album and have a number of dates in March (mainly on the folk club circuit) www.ohooleyandtidow.com |
Subject: RE: O'Hooley & Tidow on homophobia From: glueman Date: 10 Feb 12 - 02:51 AM Belinda O'Hooley was an original member of Rachel Unthank and the Winterset. She definitely added something to the group but when I last looked she and Heidi seemed to be playing the gay circuit, though that may have changed. It would be good to see her getting regular bookings, she's a fine performer. |

Quite a lot. Including the fact (also news to me) that Lou Killen has had a sex change and is now Louise (or Louisa? the stories vary). Must be close to the oldest person ever to have one. Dead websites don't help. Killen's website doesn't even mention that. O'Hooley and Tidow's blog has one post ever, from 2010. |
