My wife is about to undertake the theme of vikings with some primary school children, does anybody know of any easy songs, telling the tales of their journies, battles or life in general that she could include into her lessons?

I don't know how old these kids are but I have two great songs for you. One is called the Raven Banner: Sigurd the Jarl of the Orkney Isles, Has called to his Banner a Viking band; And sailed to Dublin to make himself King of the Irish lands....

Another is a Saxon song, Song of the Shield Wall: Hasten, O sea-stead, over the swan road. Foamy-necked ship o'er the froth of the sea! Hengest, has called us from Gotland and Frisia To Vortigern's country, his army to be.......

Lots of fun to sing too. Try http://www.hom.net/~brand/songs.html for full lyrics and tune samples

Lovely typo! I read it as Viking Chicken Songs. So, fighting, pillaging and pot-roast anyone? Good luck with the quest for songs - sorry I can't contribute anything sensible. Kris

Try Madison, Wisconsin. Back in the first half of the 20th century a Chicago electrical engineer, inventor, and electrical manufacturer by the name of Ewald Thordarson had, via an agent, bought up all the Icelandic manuscripts that could be found, and they are now part of the Thordarson Collection in the U. of Wisc. Library.

"Singing Together" once did a mini-musical on the theme of the Vikings - might be worth seeing if you can get a copy of that.
