Origins: kettle boils over

Happy St Pats day.

I have heard it said that the line about the kettle Boiling over in the song The Frost is All Over, refers to an illegal still, and boiling over would produce a lot of tell-tale steam, so be a disaster.

Is this groundless speculation?

And scalded poor Rover
And left a dark mark on his back without care.
