BBC Radio 7 broadcast the Radio Ballad - Singing the Fishing - yesterday /early hours of this morning

It is available on the BBC iplayer for the next 7 days. I think that you can still listen to this if you are outside of the UK

They will also be broadcasting

The Big Hewer - 17th/18th August

The Song of a Road - 18th/19th August

That's great news. The entire series, the originals as well as the 2006 series, was available on I-Player at the Radio 2 Radio Ballads website. There's still a lot of information about them there, but the actual programmes appear to have been taken down.

McColl's radio ballad is being broadcast at 2 o'clock this afternoon (24/3) on Radio Four Extra.
No indication yet as to whether it will be repeated, or whether it will be followed by the other radio ballads.

The Topic CD set is truly worth acquiring.

Cheerily,

documentary film based on a 1950s Radio Ballad called `Singing the Fishing' by Ewan MacColl, Peggy Seeger and Charles Parker, about the rise and decline of the herring industry on the east coast of Scotland and East Anglia. Contemporary footage of the fishermen at work is intercut with interviews and archive photos, clips from John Greirson's DRIFTERS, Harry Watts' NORTH SEA, and Campbell Harper's CALLING HERRING. Traditional folk songs are used throughout.
