Subject: Tour de Ohio (USA) From: wysiwyg Date: 01 Apr 12 - 01:16 PM Hardi and I (and music) will be camping in Ohio for almost a whole month this summer (late July thru late August). Plans for now include Delaware, Xenia/Cincy, Toledo-- so which one is closest to YOU, and will you come to us? We'll cook, and there will be tent room on our site for overnighters. I'll be pining for dog-petting time again, so PLEASE also DO bring the pooches! Plans also include a lot of cycling/scootering time on the Little Miami's bike paths (and shorter ones around Maumee/Toledo). Company of all abilities/rates of non-gasoline-motored speed wanted. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Tour de Ohio (USA) From: wysiwyg Date: 02 Apr 12 - 02:43 PM A few hours after I posted the above, we received news that my mom had died suddenly out in California, where she had been very ill for the last several months. We do still anticipate an Ohio tour as far as we now know--arrangements are pending so ashes to the sea may pre-empt. OTOH there is always next year, so REFRESH ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Tour de Ohio (USA) From: wysiwyg Date: 07 May 12 - 03:11 PM Dates now look to be July 23 - Aug 23 (ashes are in June). I may very well bring Faulkner the Superior Service Dog! ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Tour de Ohio (USA) From: Bill D Date: 07 May 12 - 03:17 PM It is never easy to lose a parent- but I'm sure you were not very surprised... many condolences, and I hope your plans are not seriously affected. |
Subject: RE: Tour de Ohio (USA) From: CupOfTea Date: 07 May 12 - 04:21 PM Susan, Sorry for your loss - and just before Mother's Day, too. If you come to Cleveland, I can introduce you the wonders of the Metro Parks (& a flute & guitar player who is an avid bicyclist). There's about 90 miles of all-purpose trail in the "Emerald Necklace" of parks that circle the city at the outer edges of the suburbs, full of wondrous activities. A trail along the Canal now links Cleveland to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park & there are some nice campgrounds along Lake Erie and up on Kelly's Island. I've always wanted some musical company to go camping at Kelly's Island State park, though campsites get reserved very early there. When yer closer to having an itinerary, I can letcha know what musical stuff is going on in this area. Then there's always front porch picking & singing on my porch. There's also a chance that I might not have the spare room rented out then, if you want a variation from tent living. I surely think it would be grand to meet you. Subject: RE: Tour de Ohio (USA) From: Rapparee Date: 07 May 12 - 08:31 PM Oh, my. I know all too well what that's like. If you do get to Ohio try to get to Cleveland. Really. There's all sorts of neat stuff there, if I could only remember what it is (besides the Cleveland Clinic and University Circle, I mean). My neice lives and works in Cleveland, if that's any recommendation. Cincy is nice, too, especially the Over-The-Rhine area. Columbus is okay; the Germantown section is good. You might want to touch on places like Gnadenhutten as well -- lots of history. If you get over to the eastern border, visit Darke County -- home of Phoebe Ann Mosey (a/k/a Annie Oakley) and the site of the worst defeat the US Army ever suffered. |

Subject: RE: Tour de Ohio (USA) From: Cool Beans Date: 08 May 12 - 07:43 PM Very sorry about your mother. My wife's mother died in January and it's been difficult, too. Subject: RE: Tour de Ohio (USA) From: wysiwyg Date: 10 May 12 - 12:00 PM Marty, We will be "near" T'town; my son and DIL live there. I would LOVE to meet you after all this time! We usually camp a a place along 80, so I guess that is southeast of Toledo-- too far? Sometimes we do a dinner and/or a sleepover with son... I can PM locations, but dates are still loose. ~Susan |
