Subject: RE: Tune Req: 'Doug's Tune' From: jeepman (inactive) Date: 02 Oct 00 - 09:41 PM Thanks, Guest. I was able to find the cd online at Rounder Records, and ordered one. You have ended a month long seach. Many Thanks. Jeepman |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: 'Doug's Tune' From: GUEST Date: 02 Oct 00 - 08:55 AM Alan Munde recorded this on "Festival Favorites Revisited," which is available on cd. I have played this tune for years as a banjo break for "Beaumont Rag" behind fiddlers, although I had to come up with my own B part, since Doug's Tune really has none. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: 'Doug's Tune' From: jeepman (inactive) Date: 01 Oct 00 - 03:44 PM I asked and received this info a few weeks ago and promptly lost it. I need download for this banjo tune by Doug Dillard. Also would like to buy it if anyone can direct me to the right place. Jeepman |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: 'Doug's Tune' From: Rick Fielding Date: 16 Oct 99 - 11:02 AM When in doubt, I usually try to go to the source. I'll bet Doug Dillard is on the net somewhere. Or how about trying to find Mitch Jayne the bass player (and manager?) I have to rehearse for a concert tonight or I'd get on the case, but maybe you can get to one of them. Sadly the recording is one that I lent out and never got back. You could start a Dillards thread...and don't call it "BS" or I'll take a stick to ya Seed! Love Rick |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: 'Doug's Tune' From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 15 Oct 99 - 08:48 PM Oh, I just remembered one other thing he said about it: It's also known as "Slimy River Bottom"--at least that's what I think he said. I just checked CD Now and none of the Dillard albums they have for sale have it by either name. --seed |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: 'Doug's Tune' From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 15 Oct 99 - 08:34 PM Rick, I think you're right. Gary mentioned the Dillards at about that time. Thanks. --seed (and see? Canadians can be helpful. Those in Vancouver and Victoria certainly are--I haven't been east of Banff so I don't know about you lot). |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: 'Doug's Tune' From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Oct 99 - 06:30 PM Seed, it could be "Doug (Dillard's) Tune. I haven't listened to it for years but it was on an old "Dillard's, Live - Almost!" album. I seem to remember it as being in the vein of "Dallas Rag". Starting on the "5" chord. Hope that aims you in the right direction. Rick |
Subject: 'Doug's Tune' From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 15 Oct 99 - 04:49 PM In the weekly jam at the Fifth String in Berkeley last night, Gary, a banjo player from Poughkeepsie, NY, introduced us to a rag called "Doug's Tune," which was a real gas to play. Does anyone know who wrote and recorded this and where there might be a lead sheet or tablature? --seed |
