Frank, if you'll please post whatever you understood of the lyrics we'll try to help. At least one word that's illusive in the last verse sounds to me like a like a place name.

Have you tried contacting the talented folks in The Outside Track group?

The Mountain Road (performed by "The Outside Track")

As I went up a mountain road

Her hair was as dark as the mountain toe
For I the peadfark flame
As I to loose my heart to her
On me there was no blame

Hey rigga doo rigga daddy
Hey rigga doo rigga day

Her neck as white as a candle one
Her lips like robins well
As soon as I had told my love
Oh yes, when we my gray

Hey rigga doo rigga daddy
Hey rigga doo rigga day

We roamed the hills in the morning light
Down by the clear rock side
Her heart was as worm as a summers day
When she said she be my bride

Hey rigga doo rigga daddy
Hey rigga doo rigga day

Hey rigga doo rigga daddy
Hey rigga doo rigga day

I got the words from Norah from Outside Track. Enjoy.
Best regards , Frank.

THE MOUNTAIN ROAD
From Sam Henry's "Songs of the People",
additional words [in italics] by Norah Rendell

As I went up the mountain road
To cut my winter store,
I met a wee lassie coming down.
My heart was mine no more.

CHORUS: Hey rick-a-doo rick-a-daddy,
Hey rick-a-doo rick-a-day.

Her hair was dark as mountain turf;
Her eye the peat-fire flame.
That I should lose my heart to her
On me there was small blame.

Her neck was white as Canavan [Ceannabháin];
Her lips like rowans red.
As soon as I had told my love,
I asked when we might wed.

We roamed the hills in the morning light
Down by the clear brook side.
Her heart was as warm as a summer's day
When she said she'd be my bride.

And now beneath my straw-winged cot
She shares the amber glow
Of turf we gathered on the hill
That now is clad with snow.

Sure I was bird-alone in troth,
Who now am one of three.
I bless the day I found my rose
On the slopes of Slievanee.

Hey rigga do rigga daddy

(turf - he was a turf cutter)
(peat - the type of fire when using turf)
(stowing cot - where he keeps the turf for the fire for the winter)
(slieve na mhi - a mountain in gaelic - na mhi (pronounced namee) is the mountains name)

Fantastic song.
