Hi, folks,

I'm trying to fill in some blanks on the MacDonald Folk Group and was wondering if anyone out there had anything more than I do. I'm sure at least several of you have personal recollections as well as "hard" data.

Here's what I know (or think I know):

They released one album in 1968, Folk Heritage 001M, members according to the LP sleeve were Paula Cooper, Gordon MacDonald, Roger MacDonald along with Bob Siddall & Brian Murray. According to legend only 49 copies of this LP were pressed, but they DO turn up on auction lists from time to time so I wonder how true this is?

The group seems to have played regularly at Bate Hall in Macclesfield, the Macclesfield connection is consistent with many of the early Folk Heritage artists as Brian Horsfall who recorded many of the earliest discs on the label seems to have been based there. Speaking of which, anyone have any additional info on Brian? Know what became of him?

A Gordon MacDonald along with Ian McMillan appeared on a Scottish LP in the late 70s as The Gregorach, possibly from Stirling. Is this the same Gordon?

I know Bob Siddall did a lot of work as a sideman on the Tradition label. Paula Cooper also appears on a Tradition cassette from the 70s.

You Mudcatters are an amazing resource, looking forward to hearing your comments.

Thanks,

Steve Canner
