For anyone interested in West Gallery singing, there's a workshop next Saturday as part of the Poynton Jubilee celebrations. You can join in doing "Murdered Anthems and Improper Psalms" at Poynton Methodist Church from 3-30 to 5-30. Here's a link to the website

Hope to see some of you there.

Cheers

Alan

Thanks for the reminder; I enjoyed a similar workshop in Warburton last year so I'll try to get along for some more Improper Psalms.

Hope you can make it Matthew. As well as the Impropes Psalms, I bet you'll join in heartily with "Hail Smiling Morn" again.

Look forward to seeing you.

Alan

Just come back from Whitby folk week, and a week of West Gallery singing.

Who do I contact to do this locally?

Robert Fawcett.

Hi Robert,

The West Gallery Music Association website gives some contact details of local choirs/quires including for the Grace Darling Singers who meet at Poynton, but Arcane Lag may be able to give you some more up-to-date information so I'll ask him to post something here.

I've noticed on the WGMA website that there is a weekend of West Gallery music due to be held at Cheetham's School of Music in Manchester from 18-20 October 2013, which you might also be interested in. See the WGMA Calendar for further information.

Thanks for that henryp.

I can strongly recommend the West Gallery Carols Workshop in Sedbergh; I went last year and enjoyed a day singing some very lively and vigourous carols including some interesting and unusual ones, some of which had strong local connections. Sedbergh is a lovely town to visit, and has some wonderful bookshops.

The Grace Darling Singers are hosting a West Gallery Workshop this Saturday at New Mill, so they won't be rehearsing at Poynton on Sunday.

I'll post details of the workshop when I get home.
