I didn't say you HAD to stop. I just said you could. That I'd got the answer I needed. I'm sure there is a lot more that could be said about tunes or morris. Or blackface sheep. Or any other association of ideas.

'Three Jolly Sheepskins' to Shepheards Hey tune.

That, Sirrah, is mixing the traditions - the Folk Police will be round to deal with you later ...

I know you said stop now but a very easy 'workshop' we ran as a scratch border morris side at Whitby one year was getting the audience to dance 'Three Jolly Sheepskins' to Shepheards Hey tune. We then did it competiveky with 3 likely lads from the audience vs 3 dancers from our team - And then sped up the music until someone cocked up. Invariably one of the dancers :-)

I'll stop now.

Can't speak for anyone else.

Thanks. I only wanted a tune for an tiny aside in a workshop I was running ("see what it feels like to dance this figure, to this tune, in this style").

Since I suddenly realised I hadn't done my homework, I came where I knew all knowledge dwells, and you didn't let me down.

You can stop now. Though knowing Mudcat, people will still be answering in twenty years time :)

Ones I've enjoyed include Rickett's Hornpipe, Kingston Black, Fanny Frail, Just As the Tide Was A-Flowing, Loose Hornpipe, Peel the Pig, Barrack Hill, Y Fronts.
You can find lots of all types of Morris music (and many Border Morris tunes) on the CD The Magic of Morris 2, Talking Elephant Records available online at www.talkingelephant.com and at the Morris Shop online. I've played this CD so much my husband begs me to stop!

If you're talking about the traditional dances from the Welsh Border area, you could do worse than look at the Original Welsh Border Morris Men website. Amongst other information it tells you:
Some of the tunes that are played for the dances are:

The Keel Row for Pershore
Jenny Lind for Brimfield
Brighton Camp for the Upton Stick Dance
Cock of the North for Bromsberrow Heath
Not for Joe for Dilwyn
Bonnets so Blue for the Upton Handkerchief Dance
Fanny Frail is done to a tune by the same name
Videos of some of the dances are also available on their site

What tunes do the Border Morris teams use? The high energy types. I think one team is called Witchmen.
