From the names you gave, I am guessing that you have this from one of the Emmylou Harris albums that it is on ~~ I think that is the way they are given in the credits. They are usually known as Doyle Lawson, Charlie Waller, and Bill Yates, members of the Country Gentlemen when they recorded this in 1977. I am sure the song is much older, as they only took credit for the arrangement. This link will take you to a site that gives you the lyrics and chords as sung by ELH!

found on Lyrics Cafe :

CALLING MY CHILDREN HOME
(Doyle Lawson/Charles Waller/Robert Yates)

Those lives were mine to love and cherish.
To guard and guide along life's way.
Oh God forbid that one should perish.
That one alas should go astray.

Back in the years with all together,
Around the place we'd romp and play.
So lonely now and oft' times wonder,
Oh will they come back home some day.

I'm lonesome for my precious children,
They live so far away.
Oh may they hear my calling...calling..
and come back home some day.

I gave my all for my dear children,
Their problems still with love I share,
I'd brave life's storm, defy the tempest
To bring them home from anywhere.

I lived my life my love I gave them,
to guide them through this world of strife,
I hope and pray we'll live together,
In that great glad here after life.

I'm lonesome for my precious children,
They live so far away.
Oh may they hear my calling...calling.. and come back home some day.

(only coz I seem to recall that the idea was to gather as much as possible on Mudcat in case other sites disappeared ...)

Cheers! R-J

John McCutcheon has a song, too, called
"Calling all the Children Home" about
dinner time around a table in a big family.
there are multi-lingual names called out
giving the image of a world-wide, cross-
cultural dinner table with a meal being shared
by all. I am sure you can se or hear more at
www.folkmusic.com, John's site.
