I heard yesterday that Ron died on Saturday shortly after returning from hospital and being diagnosed with liver cancer. He passed away in no great pain or distress.
Although being severely disabled Ron was an enthusiastic follower of all things folky in and around his native city of Hull. He will be missed by us all.
Funeral arrangements not yet known but will be posted.

Sad news indeed- Ron loved his music and it has to be said his beer! Kind thoughts and words at Beverley folk Club last night. RIP Ron.

Farewell to a very gutsy bloke. I will never forget his precarious nocturnal bike rides home from The Bluebell (who knew what part the beer played?)

Sorry to here this Pete. I remember Ron from Blue Bell and also remember him going camping with us a couple of times with Kingston Hikers.
A great kid and will be sadly missed.

Sorry to hear the news.
My Mum, who died earlier this year, and Ron's Mum were friends and had babes at about the same time at the start of the war. My Mum always said that she was really envious of Ron's mum, Mary(?),because when my brother was playing up, and throwing (rationed!)eggs out of the pram Ronnie was lying still and quiet and looking angelic. It was only later they discovered why. He was then only expected to live into his teens at the most, so all these years of going to folk clubs and festivals, drinking beer through a straw and being carried up and down stairs to the loo in the Bluebell and Nellies were a bonus.
Norrie and I have sad memories from twenty odd years ago, of being angry and ashamed when we used to take him back to his care home after Nellie's and the staff left him waiting outside for sometimes up to 20 minutes before they would let him in, hopefully that changed when he moved homes.
Mum said that his Mum's one fear was worrying about who would look after Ron when she couldn't, so I'm sure she would want to thank everyone who helped him to reach the age of 71.
Bren
