Glastonbury Medieval Festival

May 27th, 28th, 29th, 2000.

At the end of May we are having the first medieval bash at the Glastonbury Festival site in Pilton, there should be several hundred re-enactors, along with celts, druids etc, all are welcome.

There's a hundred + medieval banquet, menu curtesy of Jon_a and his missus "da boss"

There will be camping from Monday the 22nd and I have ordered 20 tons of firewood. There will also be an official beer tent from the Saturday and The Trolls Bottom (for re-enactors, read as cheap)will be open from the Monday.

All 'catter's are welcome and can get a free pass from laurie.wignall@virgin.net, or pay to get in, go to the admin tent or Trolls Bottom Bar and you entry fee will be refunded when you mention the mudcat.

There will be several UK 'catter's there by default

We get to muddy the festival site before anyone else

For all you hunters, there is an open season on Ferret's with songbooks, if you see one shoot it and put it out of our misery

ohmygod you don't know how tempting this is....but I'm out of vacation days and can't afford to "cross the puddle". To combine a mudcat event with my re-enactment.....wow. what a possibility!

The banquet will be £20.00 GBP to the public and re-enactors I think will be £15.00 and I have tagged a dozen freebies for stage fighters (me) and obviously musicians.

Oh yes the cost should include a wooden bowl, as Health & Safety would not accept re use.

There will be some Dutch, Germans and Russians there

How far does medieval go ie. would later re-enactors be welcome? I'm ex- ECWS [English Civil War Soc], but I'd still like to come and play!

Gint:- I can fight, honest, and eat! is there foom for a two metre sword? looks good and can collect about 20 nice size chickens on a good pass! well maybe the claymore would be a little more convienient, even if it can take only half a dozen chickens.

Cheers Jon

Freddie Fox,

Although the show is aimed at 800ad to 1260ad we are there to celibrate the re roofing of the abbey barn (where the banquet will be)and as there is a rich history ie the Monmouth rebellion etc I'm sure we can sort something out.

I should be at the Oxford re-enactors fair in November, I say should because I am meant to be on holliday in a Welsh castle for two weeks

That sounds good. Is it re-enactors only, or can ordinary 'cats come? & if so do you dress in period, & can you only do music from the relevant time period? Forgive me for being ignorant of these things.... how's it all work then?

Kris

I'm sure we can fit 'catters in without a problem, dress we can sort something out (no you don't have to wear a dress, unless...)

Throughout the three days, there will be areas for medieval type music, after the show closes anything goes, except garage, house, or any other type of accomodation music, try stopping them singing folk, Irish, (we should have in excess of 100 Irish re-enactors) and you'll have a lynching (true to period of course)

Hey Gint;
I assume you are still speaking of the medieval festival..but what of the folk music festival there the weekend of June 24th? I will be visiting the UK for a spell then and will likely be in the area and was thinking of checking out the music festival (in addition to all the druid and pagan haunts/sacred sites I can get to). Do you know anything about this? I used to date a guy (British) who had been there a number of times and he said it has declined somehow in recent years...any thouhgt on whether this is worth attending?

Thanks,
Peg (who will be going 'cross the puddle on June 14th)

Gint: wow that's a lot of mead!!! I love the stuff...Several of my friends brew their own (including Berta, my travelling partner) and we talked of bringing some over as host gifts for people who are letting us stay with them but we figured customs would give us a hard time about it...

It would be great to see your performance in Tintagel (we are planning to spend some time there) but we are leaving June 26th so alas we won't be there any longer...

:(

best of luck with the festival! and have fun (duh)

Boohooohooo, do not talk to me about Tintagel please guys!!!! Okay, this is not Raven actually, this is the Lady Nain, also known as Snakes.... and I cannot make it to Tintagel unfortunatelly.... most likely neither can... ehm, I don't think I'm supposed to tell you that.... anyway, how was Glastonbury? Did you get rained out? And Gint and Ferret!!!! Do this crazy birdy a favour and send him some post so now and again!!! He's withering to next to nothing since he arrived here in Ireland!!!! Would be lovely to hear from either of you..... And Little Jon!!! Before I forget you!!! NO, you are not getting away with it huney!! Don't try to hide, I've seen your name somewhere in this list, so you are visiting as well... Anyway guys, pretty soon this puter will have to shut down for a bit, because I'm moving to Leitrim, that is why I can't come to Tintagel... Any of you coming over to Bru Na Boyne or Boyle or any other show here in Ireland? I somuch want to see all of you again.....!!! Take care and might see you somewhere on the battlefield this year.... Lots of love, Nainseadh (Raven's friend)....

Peg - random thought re customs - I think (but dont hold me to this, I wouldn't want you to be arrested or anything nasty like that) if you can prove it's not for resale you're okay - ie don't have the bottles fully sealed, and drink a bit from each bottle! But like I said, I'm not completely sure, ok? jayohjo X

In two weeks time we have the Bru Na Boyne, the Battle of the Boyne, and from that site you can see Newgrange on the other side of the river here in Ireland..... Worth seeing as well, it's only a little do at the moment, still growing, and I am very very sowwy to hear that none of the NM or Gun Company are able to come over this year.... as we all know, all the shows are planned, right guys? Where do I go this year? Well, I have to stay close at home unfortunately...... Ehm, Ferret, when you do come online..... what is this that I hear you are flying over at some stage or another? Let us know more please? Thanx!!! See ya all soon...... Nainseadh (Hrafn's friend....)

that was weird I just pressed tab followed by space bar and it posted the half written bit

I hate this computer, I think I'll sell it, it doesn't do what I want Just what I tell it

Hrafn: we haven't forgotten you jsut a bit shell shoked after the Glastonbury Mudd-i-evil Festival(tm)I will be sending out a newsletter soon 'onest guv.

The gist of it is as follows, we had 14mm of rain in 3 days, the average rainfall for the month. Temperatures with the windchill factors reached -3c

A for instance, I brought with me 200 portions of fish which I covered with Ice and topped up from a black sack full of ice.

On arrival on the wednesday I dumped the black sack outside of the trailer and on the friday night I was able to use the ice in drinks

we had to cancel the show on the Saturday and I cancelled the rest of the show on the Sunday as the site was too wet.

The guys were brilliant until the Sunday when I informed them that I had been allowed to pay out £1,200 in cash (about $2,000)on the day,on top of the £4,000 ($6,000) I had paid out on the two year run up and that I was not going to be paid.

After I stopped them going down to "have a word" the site cleared in 1 1/2 hours.

I will not bring more of this bitch to the 'cat I will be putting up a humourous and possibly scathing but truthfull site shortly.

I will get my money as I had insured against my loss (it's a business thing)

Pictures will be following shortly

On a posative side the banquette for 200 people went well all but one of the entertainers organised by the Festival people cancelled the day before the banquette.

So we improvised the offer went into the bar that if anyone wanted to do a turn there would be a free chicken (pousin) and warmth, the warmth did it and we put on 4 hrs of ad lib entertainment including jousting on hobby horses etc. see Dermot for more of the evening.

They had a shorfall in numbers and said re-enactors could have the spaces so we did.

Vivo sang without amplification and were excellent and should be at Tintagel for the evenings

Must go work calls (quietly) I will update you soon Laurie

good to hear from you guys!!!! And to know that yous are actually online... Raven says hello but has to dash off to work right now!!!! And he wants to know Gint, why you are not answering his emails.... you lazy so and so.... hehehehe.... only kiddin..... This is Nain again by the way, but you probably guessed that already... Sorry to hear that we missed you Ferret because Tara was cancelled, it was a bit of a disappointment for us as well. Never the less we had Newgrange last weekend, and I don't think Raven wants me to tell very very much about that... I'll leave that up to him. For yous to decide what you do with what he wants to tell.... which is nothing he says... thanks..... nah, doesn't really matter. Crashbar and Doormouse were at Newgrange and most of the people from the North went back home because of the trouble Clive had with the G.A.A. and the Battle-continuation. There nearly was no battle at all, but Clive decided to go ahead with it anyway, sew as they may. As for me, I became a bit wiser about certain people while there, much to my sorrow I must say, but Raven advises me to shut up about it, we'll deal with it when the time comes..... Anyway, the next big thing that will be happening here is Moytura, which will be on the same weekend as Tintagel unfortunatelly, but at least it will give Raven and myself an alternative to go to without spending too much money, since we are moving house soon. I would have loved to come to Tintagel, but it'll have to wait until next year I'm afraid, too many things on my mind.... Anyway, I hope to hear from any of you pretty quick again, and so does Raven. Take care you guys. Lots of love, Nainseadh......... and my email address is snakes@esatclear.ie gimme a buzz sometime? Thanks.....

wow, sounds like this was a blast! Plaese keep me informed, I may want to attend next year (as god a reason as any to jump the puddle)
re: mead--we did not end up bringing any over but we did snag a couple bottles of homemade elderberry country wine from a pub in Banbury (drank one of them at a solstice ritual at the Rollright Stones--yum).
we were in Glastonbury on June 22 and 23rd; it is a very interesting town and a very magical spot! we hung out at a local townie pub and met some rarher fascinating individuals (including a tattoo artist, a folk singer and a professional shaman).
Ran into lots of traffic and tourists attending the big music festival at Pilton; sounded like a nightmare, muggings and rain and way too many people to deal with...
