Subject: Sarah Makem Sings From: Owen Woodson Date: 15 Jul 12 - 06:23 AM The booklet notes to Musical Traditions' Superb 3CD set of Sarah Makem; As I Roved out (MTCD353-5), contain the following statement. "and she herself had several long-playing records to her credit, notably Sarah Makem Sings, and Sarah Makem, Ulster Ballad Singer". As well as the above mentioned solo LP, Sarah Makem, Ulster Ballad Singer, Sarah certainly appeared on quite a few record anthologies. However, this is the first time I have ever heard of an LP called Sarah Makem Sings. Does anybody know when it was published and which label it was on? |
Subject: RE: Sarah Makem Sings From: Thomas Stern Date: 15 Jul 12 - 12:55 PM Perhaps they are referring to the recent TOPIC CD in the Voice of the People series: http://www.topicrecords.co.uk/?p=2716 There is a good listing of SARAH MAKEM recordings at the CLANCY Brothers website: Sarah Makem recordings Best wishes, Thomas. |
Subject: RE: Sarah Makem Sings From: GUEST,John Moulden Date: 15 Jul 12 - 03:08 PM I don't think there ever was such an album. It is in no discography I have ever seen and the item is not listed by the ITMA itma.ie |
Subject: RE: Sarah Makem Sings From: Owen Woodson Date: 15 Jul 12 - 03:47 PM Topic VOTP in question is called The Heart is True, not SMS. The Clancy's website listing is way out of date, btw. It not only omits THIT, but also the VOTP anthologies on which she features. Plus she appears on at least one CD anthology on Saydisc, drawn from Peter Kennedy's collection. My guess is that this is just a slip of the writer's memory. All the same, if such a record ever existed, I would dearly love to obtain a copy. |
Subject: RE: Sarah Makem Sings From: Reinhard Date: 15 Jul 12 - 04:45 PM If you miss VOTP and Saydisc's Sea Songs & Shanties you probably haven't looked at the second page of the Sarah Makem discography on the Clancy Brothers website. |

Subject: RE: Sarah Makem Sings From: Stringsinger Date: 16 Jul 12 - 06:10 PM Tommy told me that he was surprised to find the BBC at his house where he grew up interviewing her. |
