Shrewsbury folk festival has started a revolution and it's led to UK folk getting its own satellite.

At last....

3 decades ago us young media savvy politicised students & musician types
were rabbiting on about

"Appropriating the means of mass media production and dissemination"

or some such similar clever clogs big words trendy communications & media studies ideological mantra...???

And now finally, it's actually technologically feasible and almost affordable in the real world.....

Quite. For a festival it's eminently affordable as it could partially replace the marketing spend on old media: press releases etc I understand it would come in at considerably less than five figures for most festivals.

Less than FIVE figures for most festivals ? On top of other overheads , how many festivals can afford another £1000 Plus ?

You have to weigh it against the potential benefits. Shrewsbury sold out by April. It would involve a certain amount of far-sightedness on the part of the festival organisers.

Will it be hand carved from English Oak, and hoisted into orbit by a shanty crew?

Having just listened to a guid bit of braw Scotch stuff on BBC Alba (available on FreeSat), I'd be happy if English Folk just got a share of a channel.
