I have a Sansa Clip music player which I use in my car. Yesterday the sound started spluttering.....on/off/on/off etc so I looked in the Sandisk forums and discovered the problem may be corrupt firmware/software. I dealt with the firmware upgrade on my work PC with no problem, but made the mistake of setting the region as Europe.

Apparently there is an EU directive dictating that music players shall not play above what seemed like 50% of full volume. Further reading of the forum showed that the workaround is to reset the region for either USA or Rest of World, which allows a high/low Volume Setting to appear in the menu..........quite extraordinary.

Ah, so the trick when installing the firmware is to set Region When asked)to either USA of Rest of World in order to get the higher volume.

Road tested the music player in my car this morning, listening to a recording of the band Boston from 21/07/12 on their current tour in the USA - wonderful and loud again!

Yes, the EU has been nanny-stating us like this for a while. All players sold here have to be limited. Pretty rubbish when you need to pipe the music on to another device at a decent volume. We poor little plebs can't be permitted to decide what is loud enough for ourselves. It takes a eurocrat to dictate.

Sound from Sansa Clip started cutting off again momentarily during my drive home. However, I have been listening to it through headphones for the past 45 minutes and it works perfectly, which leads me to suspect the cassette adaptor I use with the cassette player in my car. Perhaps it's time to change it for a CD player with an auxilliary input!

My clip + mysteriously stopped working a few weeks ago - completely dead - researched and decided to buy another one as nothing came close at the price - gave it one last try and it came back to life - weird!
