Subject: RE: Happy Yorkshire day From: Musket Date: 03 Aug 12 - 07:58 AM Ah, Dave... I wrote it in received pronunciation to allow lesser mortals to understand. (I'm not a true Yorkshireman. I was born 1/2 mile from the boundary with The Peoples' Republic of South Yorkshire, so consider myself well balanced and occasionally offer my services as an interpreter. After a few beers, I tend to start with "Where's the bin?) |
Subject: RE: Happy Yorkshire day From: YorkshireYankee Date: 02 Aug 12 - 08:55 PM Not entirely sure what you meant by that, Framus, but your comment makes me want to mention that Detroit has a lot of good stuff folks who don't live there don't know about (btw, where are you from?), as does Sheffield. When people ask me to compare the two, I say that I think they are both significantly under-rated, particularly when it comes to arts & culture. They also both are places that boomed in the past; industrial powerhouses that have fallen on hard times as technology has changed. They are both very good places for music as well, including folk (although Sheffield is truly exceptional in that area, and I do feel lucky to live here). On the other hand, I think it is fair to say that poor Detroit is currently suffering a lot more than Sheffield is. Every time I go back there, it seems like my friends there are having an even tougher time getting by... [sigh] |

Subject: RE: Happy Yorkshire day From: YorkshireYankee Date: 02 Aug 12 - 02:16 PM An entertaining thought, 999... (kind of you to check it out [grin]). You may already know the reason for my Mudcat moniker, but just in case you don't, it's cos I'm an expat Yank living in Yorkshire (btw, from the Detroit area to Sheffield is not quite as radical a change of setting as you might think...) Cheers! |

Subject: RE: Happy Yorkshire day From: Musket Date: 02 Aug 12 - 10:10 AM Aye, there seemed to be a Yorkshire "theme" at our local club last night. As they say, you can always tell a Yorkshireman, but you can't tell him much.... |
