Subject: Question: Do bands always record cds from tours ?? From: Claire M Date: 03 Aug 12 - 03:32 PM Hiya, The reason I'm asking is this: I went to see Maddy Prior with Giles Lewin + Hannah James, & as to be expected she/they were bloody brilliant –- in fact they were so good, I was hoping to catch their Autumn tour but can't manage it. My favourite that they did was this creepy unaccompanied song that sounded like 'Lyke-Wake Dirge'. It frightened me to death but I loved it. I think this is part of the words but I'm not sure, it sounds more African than Russian to me but it definitely had the 2nd line in . "Nana nana nanananana uye Nana nana nanananana naye Eotteoke mareul halkka Neodo naemamgwa gateulkka Tto myeotbeonigo mangseorida" I'd love a cd with said song. Since I was little, I've always wanted things you can't get easily (if at all) & this has naturally extended to songs as I've got older. It drives me & family & friends mad. Any ideas ?? |
Subject: RE: Do bands always record cds from tours ?? From: Will Fly Date: 03 Aug 12 - 04:01 PM It's often the case that the guys on the mixing desk record the concert output. There are a variety of reasons for this - as rehearsal material, as future CD material, etc. Quite often the ambience of a live performance is far more resonant than a studio-produced product. So, if you're going to the trouble of getting a good sound mix at a concert, the added recording can be a good spin-off. |
Subject: RE: Do bands always record cds from tours ?? From: GUEST,punkfokrocker Date: 03 Aug 12 - 04:04 PM Few bands these days don't record at least a few gigs per tour for personal archive and potential commercial purposes. But it's not economically viable to release an official CD of every tour. But thanks to the wonders of the internet and dedicated music enthusiasts, it's not so impossible to track down fan released 'bootleg' recordings that may include the very gig you seek, or at least representative recordings from others on the tour. This may not be guaranteed but offers some hope, and the hunt & pursuit provides further pleasures along the way... |

Subject: RE: Do bands always record cds from tours ?? From: doc.tom Date: 04 Aug 12 - 05:28 AM It often strikes me that bands (and individual artists) tend to record a CD FOR the tour. 'This the set we're currently doing and you can get it on our current CD.' But then, this is the commercial world - not a constant repertoire you can call all the time like the old singers did. |
Subject: RE: Do bands always record cds from tours ?? From: Claire M Date: 04 Aug 12 - 04:52 PM Hiya, That's brilliant, thanks, punkfolkrocker – but it's not it. What it is, though, is one of my favourites. I'm starting to think I dreamt the other song. |

Subject: RE: Do bands always record cds from tours ?? From: Claire M Date: 05 Aug 12 - 11:03 AM Hiya, It might be that one, 9, but I listened & it doesn't sound anything like the song I heard. It could've been a different version though. Suppose I could contact Park Records to find out whether there definitely will be a cd; they should know. |
Subject: RE: Do bands always record cds from tours ?? From: michaelr Date: 05 Aug 12 - 03:05 PM It's hard to imagine how a Korean pop song called "Na na na" could possibly sound like "Lyke Wake Dirge". And how did Claire manage to quote lyrics she had heard in concert which match exactly the lyrics 999 found?? Quite a few bands (including The Allman Brothers Band) now offer custom CDs from any show of their tours. For example, when Crowded House toured in 2010, I was able to order a disc that had the show I attended in San Francisco. It's a cool thing! See www.kufala.com for examples. |
