Rosalie Sorrells has a song (title song for one of her "albums")
which she attributes to a book by Ken Kesey and Ken Babbs.

Based on a childhood campfire tale, Kesey and Babbs attempt to recreate the Old West in their story of a black cowboy, a Nez Perce Indian and a young white ... with images from the 1911 Pendelton round up rodeo...

here Gretchen Peters sings this wonderful song

The Grammy-nominated album is on Red House Records.

Rosalie; Another underrated highly talented artist. She'd do a long rap, but then she'd sing and you'd realize that every word she had spoken was essential to a complete understanding of the song.

open mike:

In all seriousness, ask around at Grateful Dead forums - Kesey and Babbs were Merry Pranksters, and the Pranksters are sort-of responsible for the Dead as a countercultural phenomenon.

Good folks on lots of fora know and appreciate stuff from Kesey, et al.
