Subject: Origins: Mechanical licensing for Sydney Carter's From: Phil Cooper Date: 08 Aug 12 - 04:08 PM I could get the whole question in the subject line. Our Christmas group has recorded Sydney Carter's Every Star Shall Sing a Carol for a short recording. We are based in the US. I thought for sure the Harry Fox song search would have it in there. It was not. And I did put in the correct title. Does anyone know where I can get a mechanical license, applicable in the US for this song, so that Mr. Carter's estate can get it's proper due. We're talking a run of less than 500 copies probably, so tens of dollars are at stake. I'm more concerned about the principle of doing the right thing. Thanks. Phil Cooper |
Subject: RE: Licensing-S.Carter: Every Star Shall Sing a Carol From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Aug 12 - 05:15 PM Hi, Phil - It's listed at Harry Fox Agency, in their "Songfile" section. Search under the name Sydney Carter because the song title is listed confusingly. I think the minimum purchase is 500 copies, so you're right that it will cost you tens of dollars.... -Joe Offer, Mudcat Archivist- (I changed the thread title so that it -almost- fits....) |
Subject: RE: Licensing-S.Carter: Every Star Shall Sing a Carol From: Phil Cooper Date: 08 Aug 12 - 11:56 PM Thanks, Joe. I did put in both the title and Sydney Carter and it came up with zero results. I'll just put in the name and see what happens. --Phil |
Subject: RE: Licensing-S.Carter: Every Star Shall Sing a Carol From: Haruo Date: 09 Aug 12 - 01:44 AM Yeah, they require an unaccountable additional "Every Star" on the end of the title to recognize it. Odd that they also have a listing for "When I Need a Neighbor" in addition to the correct "When I Needed a Neighbor"; and I'm pretty sure "Bells of Norwich" and "Julian of Norwich" refer to the same song... |
Subject: RE: Licensing-S.Carter: Every Star Shall Sing a Carol From: Phil Cooper Date: 09 Aug 12 - 03:52 PM I did just type in Sydney Carter and all the titles came up. So I will proceed from there. Thanks Joe and Haruo. |
