Pete McNabb won the song writing competition with an excellent song 'On the morning tide' - based on a true 20th century story about running away to sea and returning just in the nick of time to be reunited with family. The song had a wonderful strong chorus and managed to avoid the cliched/oft used images and words assdociated with the subject.

The whole festival was excellent - from the pre festival night at the Cutty Wren club to the final sing around at the Spa. Well done and a very big thank you to John Taylor & Co for another excellent festival.

Padge ,
In view of the Middlesbrough bus station refurbishment in the Fred Jordan Competition - methinks Guest is worky-ticket / wind-up merchant.
Thanks to Myrtles Cook - I was well informed by Padge and Glenn about the Fred Jordan competition , and it's great that you have recognised and credited Pete McNab as you did ( above).

Thanks and congrats to Pete McNab who used to come to Redcar and sing in the Shanty sessions years ago!

I had a great time at the festival and had the pleasure of going to 2 great singarounds on Sat night at the Vic and the Cons club. Made the weekend for me.
Pete McNab's One eyed cormorant looking for a shag and Ann Lambs rendition of a Victoria Woods song about a refined lady and sex were the best comic songs I heard. The best serious song I heard was Benjamin Bowmaneer done by a couple on Sat afternnon in the Vic. Really brilliant

Glad you enjoyed it Fantum

There are always excellent singarounds at Saltburn - it is a real singers festival.

I agree with the comment about Pete McNab's song - he also won the Singer/songwriter competition.

I think the couple on Saturday were likely to be John Moran and Charlotte Staples - both very accomplished singers.

I first heard a chap sing "One eyed cormorant looking for a shag " last year when the crowd took the train to Glaisdale.I pissed myself laughing and can't wait to hear it again.

I was not there. I would have liked to have been, as a consequence I did not start a thread about the festival

Saw Calum Sands on the Saturday night, very disappointed, talked too much, looks like a younger version of Vin Garbutt. After his last song looked as tho' he couldn't get off stage quick enough and seemed a bit reluctant to do an encore. As I've said I and others were disappointed.

I saw him on the Friday in the Marine and he was great as were Bill and Dave who finished the concert.

I listened to Colum Sands on Fri night and he did talk a bit long. As to getting off quick on Sat that may not be his fault. There is a set time for performers to do their stuff and over running can cause problems for the later acts. So maybe he is just a good professional singer getting the timing right.

Apologies if Colum finished early for you all. He finished on time and I did not interfer with his set all. Long days for us all
