It's more of a holiday for them- they're not professionals, we're taking advantage of their visit- I'll ask them about it though..

Sorry Felipa, this slipped my mind completely- but the answer was no, our Scottish friends LINKUM DODDIE sang nowhere else....Frank Davitts is a unique place!
It was a very enjoyable evening with many local singers including four of the five McKeaney sisters - we've now listed our guests for the rest of 2016 & working on next year now.
All meetings at Davitt's pub, DRUMKEERAN, County Leitrim at 5pm Irish time on the FIRST Sunday of the month except for October, when it will be the SECOND Sunday- this is so as not to clash with two other local traditional festivals.

September 4

MAIREAD WALLS fine traditional style singer from Toome in
             Co. Antrim

October 9

GRACE TOLAND, excellent singer from Donegal with BRIAN DOYLE- another
grand Donegal-based singer and fiddle player- we don't JUST sing- a few tunes and the odd story, monologue or joke are all part of our traditional mix!

November 6

ANNA McMANUS, locally based member of the McKeaney sisters with a great repertoire of songs

December 4

ROISIN WHITE- highly respected singer and TG4 award winner from County Down, now based in Miltown Malbay

before anyone comments, we hope to book some MALE singers in 2017!

Just to say that we still run every first Sunday at 5pm Drumkeeran time, in Davitts pub in the village.
Dec 4th ROISIN WHITE- no introduction needed- if you don't know of Roisin, where have you been?
NB JANUARY SESSION WILL BE ON MONDAY JANUARY 2;
(OUT OF CONSIDERATION FOR HEALTH NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY)

BEFORE that, a small gathering in the lovely old 'Skerry' Rynn's pub at Ballinaglera, a few miles north of Drumshanbo at 5pm Ballinaglera time on Sunday November 20- all welcome

Not much to do with the LSC but wonderful music sessions in Drumkeeran this past weekend. Featuring many local musicians and held in honour of over thirty visitors from Cape Clear Island, including musicians and singers in Irish and English.

Only wishing they'd stayed till our session in Ballinaglera next Sunday!

LSC news
Charity event in aid of Caoimhe Connor's amazing attempt to paddle her kayak around the entire coast of Ireland in aid of 'INSPIRE' the mental health charity. A lovely evening with many singers and musicians produced 235 euro for the charity, as well as a lot of fun!

see Leitrim Singers Circle FB page

Next meeting of our first Sunday singing session will NOT be on 4 June, it will be on SATURDAY June 10 at Davitts of Drumkeeran at 2pm, as part of the John McKenna Festival- all welcome

Lovely John McKenna Festival session last weekend with Fiona & Jim Byrne. Fiona is daughter of that fine Scottish singer Heather Heywood, and it shows- great stuff from her and Jim, no mean singer/guitarist himself.

On Sunday our annual session of mining songs at the ARIGNA MINING EXPERIENCE went extremely well, attracting a good crowd. In a two hour session, only myself as fear an ti and guests Fiona and Jim did more than one song, with a few tunes as well
Back to Sundays at 5 for next meetings- first Sunday at Davitts of Drumkeeran.
July-    no guest

August- LINKUM DODDY from SW Scotland- Phyllis & Billy Martin from Dalbeattie and Tam & Agnes Wightman from Girvan. A four part a capella group paying us their annual visit-don't miss it!

September- PAT SMITH and NED CLAMP - songs, concertina, spoons and guitar. Organisers of the long established folk club in Llantrisant, South Wales- a very lively and entertainng duo who have taken Welsh traditional music all over the globe.
.... we are working on guests for the rest of 2017 & have some interesting Irish guests in mind!- more later on that

One or two folk have asked about LSC. Well, it lasted five years at the lovely Davitt's pub in Drumkeeran.

However, the last meeting was in early December- neither Jackie Boyce nor I could guarantee to attend regularly and although we'd hoped someone might take it over, there were no offers, so the inevitable happened.

Thanks to all who contributed to many memorable sessions- both Jackie & I hope to still be involved in the John McKenna Traditional Festival in early June.

I am not planning any visits to folk clubs & festivals this year although you never know!

Sad news Jim. What a shame there was no one willing to take it on.
Although I've never been, it did sound like a great session

There seems to be a little doubt about the revival of the Leitrim Singers' Circle.

To clarify, myself & Jackie Boyce are putting on one more meeting as part of the John McKenna festival      www.johnmckenna.ie

It's on Saturday 9 June featuring Fiona & Jim Byrne - Fiona is a daughter of that great Ayrshire singer, Heather Heywood, and a fine singer in the family tradition- Jim's a handy lad on the guitar as well as no mean singer himself!   It will be 5pm on the 9 June in the lovely old Davitt's pub in Drumkeeran, between Manorhamilton and Drumshanbo.

There will also be a singing & music event at 3pm on the Sunday 10 June at the Arigna Mining Experience, on the site of one of the Arigna mines, where John McKenna worked in his youth.

This is to pay homage to miners of the world and all are welcome to contribute songs, poems jokes, tunes etc

No charge for either event & there is a cafe at Arigna- all welcome!

Plenty of great music all weekend in the four pubs as well!

No the LSC is not reviving- I'm back to Scotland soon & Jackie is fine just now, but still fighting ill-health.

Davitt's of Drumkeeran is still a likely spot for a session but next weekend the main attraction is at Ballinaglera, where the fine flute player Sean Gilrane organises a great weekend of traditional (mainly Leitrim) music.
Ballinaglera has two pub/grocers and a community hall- the pubs are among the finest in the Northwest _ skerry Rynn's and Mulvey's.

The village is on the east side of Lough Allen, between Drumshanbo and Dowra, so if you're anywhere near it's a great weekend!

Ballinaglera was 567 October 2018.

Not much on the www ...

@jb - where do you go for "what's on" info?

Best I can find is the FB page for the flute\whistle player Lorraine Sweeney
