Garry Harrison - Illinois/Indiana fiddler, instrument maker, composer and collector of midwest Old Time music died unexpectedly in his sleep at age 58 early this week. He was a member of the Indian Creek Delta Boys (of the 1970s and 80s) and the New Mules (who won best trad band at Clifftop in 2008); recorded numerous cds; co-wrote a wonderful collection of local tunes and songs called "Dear Old Illinois"; and was involved in countless other projects to educate the public on the rich musical heritage of his home.   One of the midwest's premier Old Time fiddlers and great overall musician, he was a huge influence on countless midwest (and broader) Old Time devotees- He will be sorely missed.

Clear star-filled nights, trot lines set in the creek, with great horned owls hooting and tunes flying. We miss you, but what sweet memories.

I heard The New Mules a couple years ago at Bluff Country Gathering. The whole camp was abuzz with admiration. I'm still listening frequently to the Pride of America cd. I am having trouble catching the lyrics. Is there a source for these online?....I am especially digging Tater Patch, Jolly Old Soul, Shoe Cobbler, Orphan Left Alone, ah, heck,....you know....ALL OF EM!! Any help appreciated. I'm not as good at catching lyrics as I used to be.
