Subject: Texas Blue Bonnets From: Amber Berebitsky Date: 24 Oct 99 - 11:02 PM A while ago, I heard a sweet song about Texas Blue Bonnets. It goes something like *Texas Blue Bonnets, how sweetly they grow (can't remember the next 2 lines) Remindin' me of my little darlin's blue eyes* I remember at the end of the song, the guy moves to Alaska, where "I finally forgot my little darlin's blue eyes" Does anyone have the lyrics to this sweet little sad song? If so, e-mail me at cammycommando@yahoo.com |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Texas Blue Bonnets From: CarlZen Date: 25 Oct 99 - 10:11 PM Laurie Lewis wrote the song. I've seen her perform it several times (most recently on the 24th of Sept.) but I'm not sure if it is on any of her CDs. It is on a performance video, Laurie Lewis & Grant Street Live in Austin. The only kind of "label" on the box says "Spruce and Maple Productions." Maybe soemone else can take this information and lead you to a better source for the lyrics. It is a Great Tune!! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Texas Blue Bonnets From: Stewie Date: 26 Oct 99 - 02:40 AM 'Texas Bluebonnets' is on Lewis' CD 'Love Chooses You' Flying Fish FF 70487. The backing to the song has a nice western swing feel to it - very Bob Willsish. As a totally irrelevant aside, that's only appropriate given that, in the late 1940s, Herb Rippa ran a very popular little independent label out of Dallas called Blue Bonnet Records. He also managed and recorded Hank Thompson before selling his contract to Capitol. |
Subject: Lyr Add: TEXAS BLUEBONNETS (Laurie Lewis) From: Jim Dixon Date: 09 Feb 08 - 04:02 PM Copied from http://www.bluegrasslyrics.com/bluegrass_song.cfm-recordID=j40.htm -- although I wouldn't really call this bluegrass; it's more like western swing. TEXAS BLUEBONNETS Laurie Lewis Those Texas bluebonnets how sweetly they grow. O'er all the wide prairies they're scattered like snow. They make all the meadows as blue as the skies, Reminding me of my little darling's blue eyes. Well, I wanted to ramble so I started to roam, And I didn't think twice about leaving my home, But when I got to Texas not far from Burnet, Those Texas bluebonnets wouldn't let me forget. I ran out of money, went to work on a farm, Picking their melons and hoeing their corn, And all winter long, Lord, I herded their cows, And I tried to forget my little darling somehow. But then springtime had blossomed [something missing here?] And it just made my head feel bluer than blue. Those Texas bluebonnets they smiled in the sun, But they just made me think of my only one. I'm leaving the southland. I'm leaving today. I don't know where I'm going, but I know that I can't stay. I guess I'll go north to the ice and the snow Where those Texas bluebonnets never will grow. In the cold frozen Iceland I'll live 'til I die, Where I'll finally forget my little darling's blue eyes. |
Subject: Lyr Add: TEXAS BLUEBONNETS (Laurie Lewis) From: open mike Date: 09 Feb 08 - 07:32 PM This has sort of a Latin beat to it.. I play it with the capo on 3. This is how I sing it... (very lively tempo) TEXAS BLUEBONNETS -Laurie Lewis-[G]-[D] (Swing It) From Laurie Lewis "Love Chooses You" CD 1989 Flying Fish Records CHORUS: Those Texas bluebonnets, how sweetly they grow. O'er all the wide prairies, they're scattered like snow. They make all the meadows as blue as the skies, Reminding me of my little darlin's blue eyes. I wanted to ramble so I started to roam And I didn't think twice about leavin' my home, But when I got to Texas, not far from Burnet, Those Texas bluebonnets wouldn't let me forget. CHORUS [Instrumental] I ran out of money, went to work on a farm Pickin' their melons and hoein' their corn And all winter long, Lord, I herded their cows And I tried to forget my little darlin' somehow. But in springtime it blossomed in every hue And it just made my heart feel bluer than blue. Those Texas bluebonnets, they smiled in the sun, But that just made me think of my only one. CHORUS I'm leavin' the southland; I'm leavin' today. I don't know where I'm going but I know that I can't stay. I guess I'll go north to the ice and the snow Where those Texas bluebonnets never will grow. CHORUS In the cold frozen northland I'll live till I die, Then I'll finally forget my little darlin's blue eyes. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Texas Bluebonnets (Laurie Lewis) From: pdq Date: 30 Jul 11 - 10:39 PM Laurie Lewis says she wrote this song while traveling through Texas. It was done as was waltz at first, but she changed it after listening to Bob Wills and Flaco Jeminez records. That probably makes it Tex-Mex Swing. Laurie Lewis is a talent monster. Playing fiddle, singing and writing. A music trifecta. |
