Subject: RE: Origins: Dorogoi dlinnoyu From: Artful Codger Date: 25 Sep 12 - 12:52 PM The only real relation between "Those Were the Days" (lyrics by Gene Raskin) and "Дорогой длинною" is the borrowed tune. As for the origins of the Russian song, the Fomin and Podrevskij attributions are hotly contested. Digital Tradition: "Those Were the Days (lyrics and MIDIs) Mudcat threads: Origin: Those Were the Days Tune Add: Those Were the Days It always pays to first do a Mudcat search (and now a "magic" search)--this is a duplicate thread which should be closed. We try to avoid such duplicates, so all the pertinent information about a song is more easily located and people don't waste time replying to the same old queries (though feel free to revive old threads with a new post--it often prompts people to add new tidbits.) Also, we do ask that GUESTs identify themselves somehow in the From line, so we can differentiate between all the GUESTS who might reply. Messages from just "GUEST" are subject to deletion.
