Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs re ancient peoples for 2nd graders From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 28 Sep 12 - 03:28 PM Ldf, you might speed up the process if you are more precise. Songs to sing or to listen to? Must it be folk songs? In English? Which ancient peoples do you think of, and how ancient? Should they have a relationship to ancient Hebrews? (There are many songs about Pharaos, but those I know are either bawdy or related to the Bible.) Would Vikings qualify? Or Native Americans? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs re ancient peoples for 2nd graders From: GUEST,Ldfsings Date: 28 Sep 12 - 09:51 PM Thanks, Grishka. I'm looking for a song or songs to teach to and sing with a class of 2nd graders that relates to the study of ancient peoples currently in their curriculum. It would be great if there were some reference to the desert, or oases, goats, tents, that sort of thing. It doesn't have to be a folk song, but easily taught and learned by that age group. It can be in English or not. If it would generally fit the theme, I guess it an be other cultures as well. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs re ancient peoples for 2nd graders From: Manitas_at_home Date: 29 Sep 12 - 12:45 AM Woad? About the ancient Welsh, Romans and Saxons. It should be in the database (see the Lyrics and Knowledge link at the top of the page). I think it was Adam McNaughtan who had a nice precis of the interaction of the Babylonian/Assyrian/Persian empires with their neighbours. It's worth putting Rudyard Kipling into the search, he had some historical poems, some of which have been set to music. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs re ancient peoples for 2nd graders From: Mo the caller Date: 29 Sep 12 - 05:42 AM The words Secular Jewish & Sundayschool don't sound as if they fit together. Any pair seem to include an oxymoron. Enlighten me, please. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Songs re ancient peoples for 2nd graders From: GUEST,Ebor_Fiddler Date: 29 Sep 12 - 12:46 PM The War Song of the Ancient Britons aka "What's the use of wearing braces?", sung to the tune "Men of Harlech". There's also "Goliath of Gath", full of lisping, straight from the Book of Samuel. Though sung to a Christian hymn tune, I'm sure that no rabbi could find any trace of us slipping in a bit of indoctrination as a sort of nasty surprise. Most children below the age of 100 or so think it id very funny. I do. |
