As you might have read, my friend Roy lost everything he owned in a flash flood last year in Central Texas. He literally walked away with the shirt on his back and his wedding ring. I am trying to replace as many songs with chords as I can as a first year "anniversary" gift. He and the rest of the faculty and staff at my school are shocked that I have come out my computer shell and dived into the net, but this is too much fun. Am I in a chat room? Roy is specifically looking for James Taylor, John Prine, John Denver, Gordon Lioghtfoot--any songs from these guys. Please post here for not just Roy, but all those who need some basics. Thanks guys...

hi Cricket,

no you're not in a chat room..... you're in a discussion forum which is pretty chatty and full of great people.... we leave each other notes and questions in threads like this one, (in a chat room you talk/type in real time).

there are thousands of songs in the database which you can find by using the "search" at this site... you just need to know a few of the words.... if they don't have guitar chords you can ask again in the discussion forum and someone will probably know them.

you are better to put each request in a new thread that way they are easier to find, and more people are likely to respond. titles like "lyrics request" don't work very well.

anyway, welcome to Mudcat, enjoy your stay, and good luck with your project.

slainte

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: IT'S A SIN TO TELL A LIE
From: Melbert
Date: 27 Oct 99 - 05:00 AM

Hi Cricket. I posted this in answer to someone else's query a few days ago. Not sure if this is the definitive version, but I got it from a John Denver TV show, and the simple chord arrangement has stood me in good stead for many years. According to JD's intro this song had special meaning to him as it was "mom's favourite song in the whole world".

Be sure it's (G)true when you (D)say I (G)love you

its a (G)sin to (B7)tell a (C)lie

(D)Millions of hearts have been (G)broken

(A7)just because these words were (D)spoken

I love (G)you yes I (D)do I l(G)ove you

If you (G)break my (B7)heart I'll (C)die

So be (C)sure it's true when you (G)say I love (E)you

It's a (A7)sin to (D)tell a (G)lie

Cross my heart, hope to die
I'll never ever ever tell another white lie.
Took my little girl out on a date last night
next to her gravel gertie woulda looked alright
Now I'me between the devil and the deep blue sea
'cos I said baby you look good to me
I told he I loved her and oh how I lied
Now she's gettin set to be my blushin' bride
If she leads me to the altar I'm sunk
I cannot tell the preacher I was drunk
So Lord have mercy on a no account sinner
Give me one more chance and let another guy win her
Cross my heart and hope to die
I'll never ever evr tell (one more time)
I'll never tell another white lie.

Perhaps not the most auspicious start to your collection, but a start nevertheless"

Best wishes Mel

Dear Cricket, This is a John Denver site with I don't know how many songs, a couple of hundred I think. Hope it helps.
