John, please please let me know in advance if you are coming. I am still chagrined that I failed to recognise you or to call you for songs.

Others - does anyone see any impediments in the schedule? I will have to re-arrange some family in-between-xmas stuff for the December one but that is so true to the roots of the events that I WILL do it.

We should (if all goes well with the refurbishment of the saddleroom and its central fire) not have TV issues, but if there are sporting events that clash with any of the dates, will others please let me know? I don't do sporting.

Brightly coloured ones need to be made from very stout material owing to the chemical effect of the dyes upon the cloth, you know.
Curiously this effect is confined to the threads that are in horizontal tension (the Warp) and not to those which are in vertical suspension (the Weft).
Catastrophic failure of chemically imbalanced materials is liable to result in your thin-thong being turned into a play-a-round and everybody being chucked out of the pub.

Trying to decipher this thread, I entered the postcode into google and it came up with a road in Rochester, in the district of Lower Stoke, in the county of Kent, UK.

Google gives you quite a lot of info about this place and its social and economic outlook...

Grain Road, ME3 9RD, the inhabitants of which fall into the ABC1 social category.

Grain Road, where there are pubs and fine houses, selling for up to 300,000 UK pounds (quite a lot, really) is an extension of a street called Cuckold's Green Rd (yes, it's true!). Also in ME3 9RD.

No wonder they have to dress up for social occasions there!

Cuckold's Green is the other end of the road (not the other road of the end or the road of the other end). The pub is the Nag's Head in which Hogarth had one of his orgastic weekends. It's in his diaries.

Lower Stoke is NOT ABC1. It is a very mixed village (indeed that is largely its charm). There are houses that should go for well over £500,000 but a large element of social housing and quite a lot of single teenage mothers. There are some Asian families and some Afro-Caribbean. Most inhabitants are blue collar or unwaged. There is a nice farmhouse one end of the High Street, and most of the decent houses are on the crescent of Grain Road/Cuckold's Green Road/Allhallows Road. I can think of two houses of age that might go to £750,000 and one less old but with HUGE and vulgar modern extensions and paddocks and that sort of thing that might be in the same price bracket.

There is only one remaining pub. The Ship was knocked down some years ago after standing derelict, and very sadly the Rose and Crown (a pub since the 1300s) historically opposite the grade 1 listed Allhallows Church is now also divided into bijoux residencettes with little boxes made of ticky tack in what used to be the carpark.

Quite a lot of Lower Stoke dwellings were taken out in the 40s and 50s as unfit for human habitation - no running water and no mains drainage.

Richard.... I'm happy to do both... as long as we are well. Lower Coke is a unique and different event from Lib Club's Beerfest... which w8ill be performance related rather than singaround. Most of the likely performers (judging by last year) don't go to the winter sings. I am not planning to start organizing beerfest music until December. Update: We will not be in the converted saddlery, but in the pub itself (as before). I know we were all looking forward to the central fire and freedom from excessive intrusion, but the brewery has put its foot down and barred the modifications to the wall in which the fireplace stood. We are still guaranteed the TV silent.

For the Xmas jobbie (30 Dec) - do we fancy Late Red or the Xmas Ale? I think the Xmas ale is too spicy and too strong at 5% for a session beer. Opinions welcome. There may be an outside chance of an outside beer and if that is so I will give details later.

Lower Coke winter sing 30 Dec.   Beer choice (IMPORTANT!). Off-book beer supplier is shut until the 28th. Mick the landlord will be phoning my mobile with beer details that morning when he can get through, and I will have to make a pretty instant decision without time for internet research.    Options are likely to include the Gale's Seafarer which I liked a lot last year or the Reverend James (of which we had finished the barrel by 3 pm last year).   More info as available.

Unless we get struck by the dreaded lurgi again. T D L will be there. Mr Leopard's voice is much better than it was last Saturday. This Saturday he plans to bake some oink bread with some of my Christmas gammon. It is infused with cloves. To accompany the bread, there will be cheeses, pickles (including gherkins with red chillis ), and plates and all that parafanalia. Probably bring the butter too.

Your noble attempt to divert attention to beer contained a bit of a faux pas too, by starting with "Eeny meeny miney mo" - I could see Angelle ITCHING to deliver the next line. Alas she is unable to be with us this Sunday either - but she is working on getting an elderly relative of hers (also Scottish - a very spry 84) along to the next one: apparently he used to sing in a barbershop quartet and IIRC he also plays moothie.

It certainly was a good afternoon followed by excellent hospitality chez Bridge. Shame mpore of you can't stay longer. Still we did justice to the squidge, and Richard should not be having it all week this time.

Do you think that we could get the girls along next time ? Folk Clubs need young blood.

Sorry we arrived at Bridge Towers a little late, we were enjoying our session so much that we went round and then had one for the road. (Song, that is... Kemp Owen... Scottish, traditional, and quite long.)

New batch of chutney made today. I whacked in loads of spice, and added a green pepper to the red onions. I upped the sugar content too. First tastew seems sweeet on the tongue, but kicks one in the back of the mouth. Should go nicely with the squidge! Shall I ask Mr Leopard to make some bread. I can reccomend his herb bread.
