Hey, 999 and ChanteyLass - thanks for checking back in!

I was very happy with how things went. Cool Beans's accompaniment (playing & singing) was just right - really enhanced the song (and he's such a pro - he picked it up in no time - I was really impressed! I also got to hear him play some of his fave tunes while we were "rehearsing"; Sheik of Araby & more (he loves stuff from the 20s); he is definitely a guitar wizard!

As for me, I was extremely pleased - my voice was the best it's been in years (my middle range/"break" has been problematic thanks to 3-4 prolonged chest infections every year for the last 5 years or so), which was such a joy and felt so good!

I was doing pub songs with great choruses and the audience was singing along with gusto (I'm told - it was hard for me to hear 'em above the sound of the monitors), which was absolutely the desired result.

And it was just lovely to be singing on "home ground" and seeing old friends I haven't seen in so many years. PLUS I got to meet frogprince and his lovely lady, which was a real treat.

I really enjoyed the evening's other acts as well - great stuff!

All in all, a wonderful evening of good friends & brilliant music - doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks to everyone who's expressed interest/support here. I really appreciate it.

Vikki/YY

999 and ChanteyLass, Thanks for checking back in!

I was very happy with how it all went - Cool Beans is a real pro and picked up the song in no time (I was way impressed!). His accompaniment (guitar & voice) was just right, didn't overwhelm the singing (i.e., me ;-D) but really complemented it. Many people told me they thought he really enhanced the song.

It went great! Vikki's set went over well, especially the song I played with her. Mudcatter Frogprince came over and introduced himself, and a good time was had by all. Thanks for asking. And how are things back home in RI?

Leaving to go rehearse with Cool Beans shortly.
Am really looking forward tonight; it's been so long since I've been able to get to a Paint Creek anything!

See some of you tonight (you know who you are...)!

Thanks Foggers, and frogprince, too.

Special thanks to the kind (and observant!) Mudelf who changed the YY in the subject to the full (and less cryptic) YorkshireYankee!

Hey up Vikki.

Glad to hear you will be spreading the English pub singing tradition over on the left hand side of t'Pond whilst you are over there; hope it goes well!

For anyone who is actually in a realistic radius, be assured that the Tin Whistle is definitely an evening of good music and fun. Best to phone that number and reserve tickets, folks do turn out for this.

Bruce - how very kind of you to say that (especially as I'm aware of what a truly fine musician & songwriter you are).

@: Thanks! See you back in Sheffield eventually - hope Raise the Roof (http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=140534 sorry, can't get the blickifier to work) goes well tomorrow (Thurs) evening!

Less than a week now... am planning to drive to Detroit (from Chicago) this Thursday. Any Detroit-area catters out there?

Hi Folks,

If you'll excuse a shameless plug, just wanted to mention -- especially to any Detroit-area Catters -- that I'll be performing a short set at the "Tin Whistle Concert" put on annually by Paint Creek Folklore Society (my old folk club!) on Sat, Nov 10th.

They have an excellent line-up, which I'm delighted & excited to be a part of! Here's the info from their website:

This is our 41st concert, and we've snagged a couple great headliners this year:

STELLA!
American roots band from Michigan; singer-songwriter super group with three-part vocal harmonies. Songwriter Jo Serrapere, blues powerhouse Jen Sygit, and Gospel songstress Laura Ann Bates.

JAN & JIM
Jan Krist and Jim Bizer's intricately layered instrumental parts and stunning vocal harmonies soar. At the heart is the profound respect and playful interaction they bring to each other's songs, the spark of two remarkable artists working and playing together.

With a Paint Creek Sampler, Featuring

MANDOLIN SOJOURN

Local artists Jack Erickson, Phyllis Isabel and Marty Buchanan play a amazing range of styles, from popular to folksy, and from classical to country-western.

VIKKI APPLETON
All the way from England! Vikki brings with her the tradition of English Pub Singing and presents it with her trademark infectious energy and enthusiasm.

Saturday, November 10, 2012
Doors open at 7:00 PM, concert starts at 7:30 PM
Tickets $15: call (248) 889-3013 to reserve yours!

Fellowship Hall at University Presbyterian Church in Rochester Hills (map here)

The hall is handicap-friendly and smoke-free. As always, great food and beverages will be available.

========================

Hope to possibly even see one or two of you there!

Cheers,

Vikki/YY
