What happened to the Leesiders, Wirral (?) folk group in the 60's? Any recent sightings?

Intriguingly, no mention of the Leesiders either in the CV on the website.

There was Pete Douglas and another Pete whose surname I can't remember but was called "Red Haired Pete" for obvious reasons. Very popular in their day, but that day must have been getting on for fourty years ago if not more.

I knew Pete Douglas back in Liverpool in the 50's but lost touch over the years. The last I heard of him was 3 or 4 years ago through Johnny Silvo at a folk concert in Troon Scotland. He understood that Pete had settled in Sweden but I do not have any confirmation of that.
Anyone know any more?

Bob Buckle sighted in Penkhull leading a primary school children's singing workshop. No sign of Leesiders.

The only red haired Pete bigJ refers to that I can think of was Pete Hayes. More Here

Great Link Tom terrier, trust you are both well?

Much enjoyed The Leesiders Club - Sunday Night in Birkenhead. Missed The Watersons and I think Paul Simon but much enjoyed Leon Rosselson and Pete Stanley & Brian Golbey/Wizz Jones amongst many others.

I think Pete Hayes left to form another group - a bit more trady - can't remember their name though

Les, Pete Hayes linked up with Bernie Davis and A.N.Other(name escapes me at the moment)for a while in the late 60's, they called themselves Phoenix, they ran a folk night (calling it "The Inferno") at "The Lamb" in Wavertree. I've not heard anything about Pete after that.
I was told Pete Douglas had married his Swedish lady and moved to Sweden to live (but that may just have been rumour). I bet Harmonium Hero would know if he resurfaces.

Yes, I can vouch for the fact that Pete Douglas married his Swedish girlfriend and moved to Sweden. Can't remember exactly when, but late '70s. The Leesiders - Pete and Bob when I saw them perform- split up in the early '70s, I think. Never really knew Bob (although Tom and I were featured on his Radio City folk show once), but Pete was MC at the Strand Ceilidh Club with the Radstock Band (me, Tom, Steve Burgess, Ross Ward and Charlie Brice) and the Acme Band (Mike Linden et al - still going strong) and resident caller the late Ray Cope. This ran for a few months in about 1972 or '73; proper ceilidh club with song spots from Pete, The Wakes (me and Tom) and floor singers. Pete was also MC/resident at McTavish's Kitchens in Oban for a few years in the '70s. Last time I saw him was in Sweden, in early 1979. I was there with Bill Bracken and various McTavish's musicians and dancers, doing a tour of Sara Hotels. We were in Boras for the first couple of nights, and Pete, who lived locally, came along and introduced us. We also met the aforementioned Swedish Wife. Haven't heard anything since, but Billy Bracken might know more. I'll ask.
John Kelly.

....Oh, yes; Pete sang one of my songs - Horse and Waggon (it's on my first CD, which, of course, you've all got) on Two-Way Family Favourites, on BBC Radio, around 1970.

Pete Douglas lived in Stainburn Avenue Norris Green just round the corner from my Mum's house.Knew him well but mainly after he parted company from Bob. He did a couple of spots for us at the PUNCA Club in the Old Fort Prescot Street.
Glad to hear that Mike Linden & Co are still going strong. The Acme band played for our wedding in 1972 at the Cattle market Hotel where Old Rope ran the Ale House folk club.
Ah such memories - seldom get as far as Liverpool these days

There is now a website which answers this question - http://www.leesiders.com/ . From this, "Bob Buckle is still singing, playing and recording. Peter Douglas is retired, but can be seen doing a guest appearance once in a while at special occasions."

I saw the Leesiders in 1970 when I was on holiday in Cornwall and enjoyed them very much. I bought their LP which I still have. Inside the LP sleeve is the programme with a bio of each of the boys.

Peter Douglas and Bob Buckle split up in the very early 1970's as I recall. Peter and I met at school in September 1946 at the age of 7.
