Subject: Obsessed with a song...
From: Kele
Date: 18 Nov 12 - 10:10 PM

Can't get enough of "Braw Burn the Bridges" by the Tannahill Weavers these days. All of a sudden, it has struck me as the most beautiful song in the world. I listen to it over and over again.

What's your obsession?

After 50 years of being a lover of folk music, traditional, and some contemporary, PBS turned me on to Leonard Cohen. These Days "Alexandra Leaving" and "Take This Waltz" are on my mp3, and in my head. I still love folk music of course.

Erich - yes, Lorraine did sing with "Malin Head", and so did Mairi MacInnes, but neither of them was the singer on that recording. Thanks anyway.

For a few weeks now I have been listening to some of the songs from folk/rock group, The Byrds. One song in particular I cannnot stop listening to or singing around house, is their song called, "Five D" or "Fifth Dimension." (nothing to do with the group called Fifth Dimension.)
Cannot get this song out of my head!! Originally released on their third album in 1966.
You can hear it on Youtube.

Astonishingly, until just a few weeks ago, I was all but completely unfamiliar with Manhattan Transfer. I've now bought all (I think!) their albums and am MADLY in love with "The Offbeat of Avenues", in particular the title (and opening) track and the next track, "Sassy".

WOW!!!

ON-ON,
NightWing

Hey, Lin. Great old Byrds song by Mr McGuinn. I enjoy playing it on the 12 string. Kind of psychedelic/folk.

Hey Lonesome EJ,

Have you uploaded a video of yourself playing this on Youtube?
Would enjoy hearing it covered by others as well. :-))

Thanks,
Lin

Well, my facility with my left hand is still not what it needs to be for barring a 12 string (broke 5 bones in it last July), but when it is, I'll give it a shot, Lin.

I remember John Denver saying that, back in 1965, he was obsessed with Donovan's "Catch the Wind".

Hi Lonesome EJ,

Still paying attention. :-))
Not familiar with Soundcloud at all. Is it something like Youtube? Do you have to download Soundcloud to hear songs? This is the first time I have heard of it. Of course, I am not a tech person really and don't know all these latest music sites.
I only know Youtube and CD Baby to hear music or individuals own websites where you can hear song samples (sometimes a few entire songs).
